Va'etchanan Summary

Va'etchanan (ואתחנן — Hebrew for “and I pleaded,” the first word in the Parshah) is the 45th weekly Torah portion (Parshah) in the annual Jewish cycle of Torah reading and the second in the book of Devarim. It constitutes Devarim 3:23–7:11. Jews in the Diaspora generally read it in late July or August.

Summary
Moshe asked to see the land
Moshe pleaded with YHVH to let him cross over and see the land on the other side of the Yarden River. (Dev. 3:23–25.) But YHVH was wrathful with Moshe on account of the Yisra’elites and would not listen, telling Moshe never to speak of the matter again. (Dev. 3:26.) YHVH directed Moshe to climb the summit of Pisgah and gaze about to look at the land. (Dev. 3:27.) And YHVH told Moshe to give Y’hoshua his instructions and imbue him with strength and courage, for Y’hoshua was to lead the people and allot to them the land. (Dev. 3:28.)
Arguments to obey the law
Moshe exhorted the Yisra’elites to heed YHVH’s laws, not to add anything to them, and not to take anything away from them, so that they might live to enter and occupy the land that YHVH was giving them. (Dev. 4:1–2.) Moshe noted that in the sin of Baal-peor, YHVH wiped out every person who followed Baal-peor, while preserving alive those who held fast to YHVH. (Dev. 4:3–4.) Moshe argued that observing the laws faithfully would prove to other peoples the Yisra’elites’ wisdom and discernment, for no other great nation had a YHVH so close at hand as YHVH, and no other great nation had laws and rules as perfect as YHVH’s. (Dev. 4:6–8.)


“The mountain was ablaze with flames” (Dev. 4:11.)
Moshe urged the Yisra’elites to take utmost care not to forget the things that they saw, and to make them known to their children and children’s children: How they stood before YHVH at Horeb, the mountain was ablaze with flames, YHVH spoke to them out of the fire, and YHVH declared to them the Ten Words. (Dev. 4:9–13.) At the same time, YHVH commanded Moshe to impart to the Yisra’elites laws for them to observe in the land that they were about to occupy. (Dev. 4:14.)

Because the Yisra’elites saw no shape when YHVH spoke to them out of the fire at Horeb, Moshe warned them not to make for themselves a sculptured image in any likeness whatever — the form of a man, woman, beast, bird, creeping thing, or fish. (Dev. 4:15–18.) And when they looked up and saw the sun, moon, stars, and heaven, they were not to be lured into bowing down to them or serving them, for YHVH allotted those things to other peoples, but YHVH took the Yisra’elites and brought them out of Mitsrayim to be YHVH’s very own people. (Dev. 4:19–20.)
Moshe said that YHVH was angry with him on account of the Yisra’elites, and YHVH swore that Moshe would not enter the land but would die in the land east of the Yarden. (Dev. 4:21–22.) Moshe cautioned the Yisra’elites not to forget the covenant that YHVH concluded with them, and not to make a sculptured image, for YHVH is a consuming fire, an impassioned Elohim. (Dev. 4:23–24.)
Moshe called heaven and earth to witness against the Yisra’elites that should they make for themselves a sculptured image when they were in the land, then YHVH would scatter them among the peoples, leaving only a scant few alive. (Dev. 4:25–27.) There in exile they would serve man-made YHVHs of wood and stone, that would not be able to see, hear, eat, or smell. (Dev. 4:28.) But when they were in distress and they searched for YHVH with all their heart and soul, returned to YHVH, and obeyed YHVH, then they would find YHVH, even there. (Dev. 4:29–30.) For YHVH is a compassionate YHVH, Who would not fail them, let them perish, or forget the covenant that YHVH made with their fathers. (Dev. 4:31.)
Moshe invited the Yisra’elites to consider whether in any time or space any people had ever heard the voice of a mighty one speaking out of a fire and survived, or any mighty one had taken one nation from the midst of another by prodigious acts and awesome power as their Elohim had done for them in Mitsrayim before their very eyes. (Dev. 4:32–34.) Moshe said that it had been clearly demonstrated to them that YHVH alone is Elohim and there is none beside YHVH. (Dev. 4:35.) Moshe thus admonished them to observe YHVH’s laws and mitzvot, which Moshe enjoined upon them that day, that it might go well with them and their children, and that they might long remain in the land that YHVH was assigning to them for all time. (Dev. 4:40.)
Cities of refuge
Then Moshe set aside three cities of refuge on the east side of the Yarden to which a manslayer who unwittingly slew a person without having been hostile to him in the past could escape and live: Bezer among the Reubenites, Ramoth in Gilead among the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan among the Manassites. (Dev. 4:41–43.)
The Ten Words
Moshe summoned the Yisra’elites and called on them to hear the laws and rules that he proclaimed that day, to study them and observe them faithfully. (Dev. 5:1.) At Horeb, YHVH made a covenant with them — not with their fathers, but with them, the living, every one of them. (Dev. 5:2–3.) YHVH spoke to them face to face out of the fire on the mountain. (Dev. 5:4.) Moshe stood between YHVH and them to convey YHVH’s words to them, for they were afraid of the fire and did not go up the mountain. (Dev. 5:5.) YHVH said the Ten Words:

· “I YHVH am your Elohim.” (Dev. 5:6.)
· “You shall have no other Elohim beside Me. You shall not make for yourself a sculptured image, any likeness of what is in the heavens above, or on the earth below, or in the waters below the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them.” (Dev. 5:7–9.)
· “You shall not swear falsely by the name of YHVH your Elohim.” (Dev. 5:11.)
· “Observe the Shabbat and keep it kadosh.” (Dev. 5:13.)
· “Honor your father and your mother.” (Dev. 5:16.)
· “You shall not murder.”
· “You shall not commit adultery.”
· “You shall not steal.”
· “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” (Dev. 5:17.)
· “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. You shall not crave your neighbor’s house, or his field, or his male or female slave, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor’s.” (Dev. 5:18.)
YHVH spoke these words to the whole congregation at the mountain, with a mighty voice out of the fire and the dense clouds, and YHVH inscribed them on two tablets of stone, which YHVH gave to Moshe. (Dev. 5:19.) When the Yisra’elites heard the voice out of the darkness and saw the mountain ablaze with fire, the tribal heads and elders asked Moshe to hear all that YHVH had to say and then tell the people, and they would willingly obey. (Dev. 5:20–24.)
The Shema

And Moshe imparted YHVH’s instruction, the Shema and V'ahavta, saying: “Hear, O Israel: YHVH our Elohim, YHVH is one. And you shall love YHVH your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words, which I command you this day, shall be upon your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when thou rise up. And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes. And you shall write them upon the doorposts of your house, and upon your gates.” (Dev. 6:4–9.)
Further exhortation to obey YHVH
Moshe exhorted the Yisra’elites, when YHVH brought them into the land and they ate their fill, not to forget the El who freed them from bondage in Mitsrayim, to revere and worship only YHVH, and to swear only by YHVH’s name. (Dev. 6:10–13.) Moshe warned the Yisra’elites not to follow other Elohim, any Elohim of the people about them, lest the anger of YHVH blaze forth against them and wipe them off the face of the earth. (Dev. 6:14–15.) Moshe warned the Yisra’elites not to try YHVH, as they did at Massah, but to keep YHVH’s mitzvot and do what is right in YHVH’s sight, that it might go well with them, that they might be able to possess the land, and that all their enemies might be driven out before you them. (Dev. 6:16–19.) And when their children would ask the meaning of the mitzvot, they were to answer that they were slaves to Pharaoh in Mitsrayim, and YHVH wrought before them marvelous and destructive signs and portents, freed them with a mighty hand to give them the land, and then commanded them to observe all these laws for their lasting good and survival. (Dev. 6:20–24.)
Instructions for conquest
Moshe told the Yisra’elites that when YHVH brought them to the land and dislodged seven nations before them — the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites — the Yisra’elites were to doom them to destruction, grant them no terms, and give them no quarter. (Dev. 7:1–2.) The Yisra’elites were not to intermarry with them, for they would turn the Yisra’elites’ children away from YHVH to worship other Elohim, and YHVH’s anger would blaze forth against the Yisra’elites and wipe them out. (Dev. 7:3–4.) The Yisra’elites were to tear down their altars, smash their pillars, cut down their sacred posts, and consign their images to the fire. (Dev. 7:5.)
The Yisra’elites were a people consecrated to YHVH, and YHVH chose them from all the peoples on earth to be YHVH’s treasured people. (Dev. 7:6.) YHVH chose them not because they were the most numerous of peoples, but because YHVH favored them and kept the oath YHVH made with their fathers. (Dev. 7:7–8.) Moshe told them to note that only YHVH is Elohim, the steadfast El who keeps His covenant faithfully to the thousandth generation of those who love YHVH and keep YHVH’s mitzvot, but who instantly requites with destruction those who reject YHVH. (Dev. 7:9–10.)

Act 5:22 וילכו המשרתים ולא מצאום בבית הכלא וישובו ויגידו לאמר׃
Act 5:23 באנו והנה בית האסורים סגור ומסגר והשמרים עמדים על־הפתח ונפתח ולא מצאנו בו אדם׃
Act 5:24 ויהי כשמע נגיד המקדש וראשי הכהנים את־הדברים האלה ויהיו נבוכים עליהם ויאמרו מה־תהיה זאת׃
Act 5:25 ואיש אחד בא ויגד להם לאמר הנה האנשים אשר שמתם במשמר עמדים הם במקדש ומלמדים את־העם׃

Act 5:33 ויהי כשמעם ויגע בם עד נפש ויתיעצו להרוג אתם׃
Act 5:34 ויקם בסנהדרין אחד מן־הפרושים גמליאל שמו והוא מורה התורה מכבד בעיני כל־העם ויצו להוציא את־השליחים החוצה לזמן מעט׃
Act 5:35 ויאמר אליהם אנשי ישראל השמרו לכם מפני האנשים האלה במה־שתעשו להם׃

Acts of the Jewish Apostles 3-5
Act 3:1 And Kĕpha and Yochanan were going up to the Temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.
Act 3:2 And a certain man, lame from his birth, was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the Temple which is called Yaphah,1 to ask alms from those entering into the kadosh Temple, Footnote: 1Beautiful or lovely.
Act 3:3 who, seeing Kĕpha and Yochanan about to go into the kadosh Temple, asked for alms.
Act 3:4 And Kĕpha, with Yochanan, looking steadfastly at him, said, “Look at us.”
Act 3:5 And he gave heed to them, expecting to receive whatever from them.
Act 3:6 But Kĕpha said, “I do not have silver and gold, but what I do possess, this I give you: In the Name of יהושע Mashiach of Natzeret, rise up and walk.”
Act 3:7 And taking him by the right hand he lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones were made firm.
Act 3:8 And leaping up, he stood and walked, and went in with them into the kadosh Temple, walking and leaping and praising Elohim.
Act 3:9 And all the people saw him walking and praising Elohim.
Act 3:10 And they recognized him, that it was he who sat begging alms at the Lovely Gate of the kadosh Temple. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what befell him.
Act 3:11 And as the lame man who was healed was clinging to Kĕpha and Yochanan, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Shlomo’s, greatly amazed.
Act 3:12 And seeing it, Kĕpha responded to the people, “Men of Yisra’ĕl, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or reverence we have made him walk?
Act 3:13 “The Elohim of Avraham, and of Yitzchak, and of Ya`akov, the Elohim of our fathers, esteemed His Servant יהושע, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.
Act 3:14 “But you denied the kadosh and Righteous One, and asked that a man, a murderer, be granted you.
Act 3:15 “But you killed the Leader1 of life, whom Elohim raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. Footnote: 1 Or Prince.
Act 3:16 “And by the belief in His Name, this one whom you see and know, His Name made strong, and the belief which comes through Him has given him this perfect healing before all of you.
Act 3:17 “And now, brothers, I know that you did it in ignorance, as your rulers did too.
Act 3:18 “But this is how Elohim has filled what He had announced beforehand through the mouth of all the prophets, that His Mashiach was to suffer.
Act 3:19 “Repent therefore and turn back, for the blotting out of your sins, in order that times of refreshing might come from the presence of the Master,
Act 3:20 and that He sends יהושע Mashiach, pre-appointed for you,
Act 3:21 whom heaven needs to receive until the times of restoration of all matters, of which Elohim spoke through the mouth of all His kadosh prophets since of old.
Act 3:22 “For Moshe truly said to the fathers, ‘יהוה your Elohim shall raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear according to all matters, whatever He says to you.
Act 3:23 ‘And it shall be that every being who does not hear that Prophet1 shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ Footnote: 1Deut. 18:18-20.
Act 3:24 “And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Shemu’ĕl and those following, have also announced these days.
Act 3:25 “You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which Elohim made with our fathers, saying to Avraham, ‘And in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed.’
Act 3:26 “To you first, Elohim, having raised up His Servant יהושע, sent Him to bless you, in turning away each one of you from your wicked ways.”1 Footnote: 1See 2:38.
Act 4:1 And as they were speaking to the people, the kohanim and the captain of the Kadosh Temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,
Act 4:2 being annoyed because they taught the people and announced the resurrection from the dead in יהושע.
Act 4:3 And they arrested them, and put them in jail until the next day, for it was already evening.
Act 4:4 But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men became about five thousand.
Act 4:5 And it came to be, on the next day, that their rulers and elders and scribes assembled in Yerushalayim,
Act 4:6 as well as Ḥanan the kohen gadol, and Qayapha, and Yochanan, and Alexander, and as many as were descendant from the kohen Gadol.
Act 4:7 And having placed them in the middle, they asked, “By what power or in what Name did you do this?”
Act 4:8 Then Kĕpha, filled with the Ruach HaKadosh, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Yisra’ĕl:
Act 4:9 “If today we are called to account for a good deed towards a sick man, by whom he has been healed,
Act 4:10 let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Yisra’ĕl, that in the Name of יהושע Mashiach of Natzeret, whom you impaled, whom Elohim raised from the dead, by Him this one stands before you, healthy.
Act 4:11 “This is ‘the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’
Act 4:12 “And there is no deliverance in anyone else, for there is no other Name under the heaven given among men by which we need to be saved.”
Act 4:13 And seeing the boldness of Kĕpha and Yochanan, and perceiving that they were unlearned and ordinary men, they marveled. And they recognized that they had been with יהושע.
Act 4:14 And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they could not contradict it.
Act 4:15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they consulted with one another,
Act 4:16 saying, “What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that an outstanding miracle has been done through them is apparent to all those dwelling in Yerushalayim, and we are unable to deny it.
Act 4:17 “But in order that it spreads no further among the people, let us strongly threaten them, to speak no more to anyone in this Name.”
Act 4:18 And they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor to teach in the Name of יהושע.
Act 4:19 But Kĕpha and Yochanan answering them, said, “Whether it is right in the sight of Elohim to listen to you more than to Elohim, you judge.1 Footnote: 1See 5:29.
Act 4:20 “For it is impossible for us not to speak of what we saw and heard.”
Act 4:21 And having threatened them further, they released them, finding no way of punishing them, because of the people, because they were all praising Elohim for what had been done.
Act 4:22 For the man was over forty years old on whom this miracle of healing had been done.
Act 4:23 And having been released, they went to their own people and reported all that the head kohanim and elders said to them.
Act 4:24 And having heard that, they lifted up their voice to Elohim with one mind and said, “יהוה, You are Elohim, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them,
Act 4:25 who by the mouth of Your servant Dawiḏ have said, ‘Why did the goyim rage, and the people plot in vain?
Act 4:26 ‘The sovereigns of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against יהוה and against His Mashiach.’1 Footnote: 1See Ps. 2:1-2.
Act 4:27 “For truly, in this city there were gathered together against Your kadosh Servant יהושע, whom You anointed, both Herodes and Pontius Pilate, with the goyim and the people of Yisra’ĕl
Act 4:28 to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose decided before to be done.
Act 4:29 “And now, יהוה, look on their threats, and give to Your servants all boldness to speak Your word,
Act 4:30 by stretching out Your hand for healing, and signs, and wonders to take place through the Name of Your kadosh Servant יהושע.”
Act 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they came together was shaken. And they were all filled with the Ruach HaKadosh, and they spoke the word of Elohim with boldness.
Act 4:32 And the group of those who believed were of one heart and one being. And no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they had all in common.
Act 4:33 And with great power the emissaries gave witness to the resurrection of the Master יהושע, and great favor was upon them all.
Act 4:34 For there was not anyone needy among them, for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of what was sold,
Act 4:35 and laid them at the feet of the emissaries, and they distributed to each as anyone had need.
Act 4:36 And Yosĕph, who was also called Barnaḇah by the emissaries (which means Son of Encouragement), a Lĕwite, a native of Cyprus,
Act 4:37 having land, sold it, and brought the proceeds and laid it at the feet of the emissaries.
Act 5:1 But a certain man named Ḥananyah, with Shappirah his wife, sold a possession.
Act 5:2 And he kept back from the price, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the feet of the emissaries.
Act 5:3 But Kĕpha said, “Ḥananyah, why has HaSatan filled your heart to lie to the Ruach HaKadosh and keep back from the price of the land for yourself?
Act 5:4 “While it remained, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your authority? Why have you conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to Elohim.”
Act 5:5 Then Ḥananyah, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all those who heard of this.
Act 5:6 But the young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out and buried him.
Act 5:7 And it came to be, about three hours later, that his wife came in, not knowing what had taken place.
Act 5:8 And Kĕpha responded to her, “Say to me whether you sold the land for so much?” And she said, “Yes, for so much.”
Act 5:9 So Kĕpha said to her, “Why have you agreed to try the Spirit of יהוה? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out.”
Act 5:10 And immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, they buried her beside her husband.
Act 5:11 And great fear came upon all the assembly and upon all who heard of this.
Act 5:12 And through the hands of the emissaries many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one mind in Shlomo’s Porch.
Act 5:13 But of the rest no one had the courage to join them, however, the people made much of them.
Act 5:14 And more believers were added to the Master, large numbers of both men and women,
Act 5:15 so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Kĕpha, passing by, might fall on some of them.
Act 5:16 A large number also gathered from the surrounding cities to Yerushalayim, bringing sick ones and those who were troubled by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
Act 5:17 But the kohen gadol rose up, and all those with him, which is the sect of the Sadducees, and they were filled with jealousy,
Act 5:18 and seized the emissaries and put them in the public jail.
Act 5:19 But a messenger of יהוה opened the prison doors at night and brought them out, and said,
Act 5:20 “Go and stand in the Kadosh Temple and speak to the people all the words of this life.”
Act 5:21 Now when they heard, they went into the Kadosh Temple early in the morning, and were teaching. But the kohen gadol and those with him came and called the council together, with all the elders of the children of Yisra’ĕl, and sent to the prison for them to be brought.
Act 5:22 But having come, the officers did not find them in the prison, and they went back and reported it,
Act 5:23 saying, “We found the prison shut in all safety, and the watches standing outside before the doors. But having opened them, we found no one inside!”
Act 5:24 And as the kohen gadol and the captain of the Kadosh Temple and the chief kohanim heard these words, they were puzzled and wondered what this might be.
Act 5:25 But one came and reported to them, saying, “Look, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the Kadosh Temple and teaching the people!”
Act 5:26 Then the captain went with the officers and brought them, not with force, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned.
Act 5:27 And having brought them, they set them before the council and the kohen gadol asked them,
Act 5:28 saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this Name? And look, you have filled Yerushalayim with your teaching, and intend to bring the blood of this Man upon us!”
Act 5:29 And Kĕpha and the other emissaries answering, said, “We have to obey Elohim rather than men.1 Footnote: 1See 4:19.
Act 5:30 “The Elohim of our fathers raised up יהושע whom you laid hands on, hanging Him on a timber.
Act 5:31 “Him, a Prince and a Saviour, Elohim has exalted to His right hand, to give repentance to Yisra’ĕl and forgiveness of sins.
Act 5:32 “And we are His witnesses to these matters, and so also is the Ruach HaKadosh whom Elohim has given to those who obey Him.”1 Footnote: 1See 1 John 3:24.
Act 5:33 And those hearing were cut to the heart, and took counsel to kill them.
Act 5:34 But a certain one in the council stood up, a Pharisee named Gamli’ĕl, a teacher of the Torah, respected by all the people, and ordered them to put the emissaries outside for a little while,
Act 5:35 and said to them, “Men of Yisra’ĕl, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do to these men.
Act 5:36 “For before these days Toḏah rose up, claiming to be somebody. A number of men, about four hundred, did join him. He was slain, and all who obeyed him were dispersed, and came to naught.
Act 5:37 “After him, Yehuḏah of Galil rose up in the days of the census, and drew away many people after him. He also perished, and all who obeyed him were scattered.
Act 5:38 “And now I say to you, stay away from these men and leave them alone, because if this plan or this work is of men, it shall be overthrown,
Act 5:39 but if it is of Elohim, you are unable to overthrow it, lest you even be found to fight against Elohim.”
Act 5:40 And they heeded his advice, and having called for the emissaries, beating them, they commanded that they should not speak in the Name of יהושע, and let them go.
Act 5:41 Then indeed they went rejoicing from the presence of the council, because they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His Name.
Act 5:42 And daily in the Kadosh Temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and bringing the Good News: יהושע HaMashiach!

Yes 40:1 “Comfort, comfort My people!” says your Elohim.
Yes 40:2 “Speak to the heart of Yerushalayim, and cry out to her, that her hard service is completed, that her crookedness is pardoned, that she has received from the hand of יהוה double for all her sins.”
Yes 40:3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, “Prepare the way of יהוה; make straight in the desert a highway for our Elohim.
Yes 40:4 “Let every valley be raised, and every mountain and hill made low. And the steep ground shall become level, and the rough places smooth.
Yes 40:5 “And the esteem of יהוה shall be revealed, and all flesh together shall see it. For the mouth of יהוה has spoken.”
Yes 40:6 The voice said, “Cry out!” and he said, “What do I cry?” “All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field.
Yes 40:7 “Grass shall wither, the flower shall fade, when the Spirit of יהוה has blown on it! Truly the people is grass!
Yes 40:8 “Grass shall wither, the flower shall fade, but the Word of our Elohim stands forever1.” Footnote: 11 Peter 1:24-25.
Yes 40:9 You who bring good news to Tziyon, get up into the high mountain. You who bring good news to Yerushalayim, lift up your voice with strength, lift it up, be not afraid. Say to the cities of Yehuḏah, “See your Elohim!”
Yes 40:10 See, the Master יהוה comes with a strong hand, and His arm rules for Him. See, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him.
Yes 40:11 He feeds His flock like a shepherd, He gathers the lambs with His arm, and carries them in His bosom, gently leading those who are with young.
Yes 40:12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and measured the heavens with a span, and contained the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?
Yes 40:13 Who has meted out the Spirit of יהוה, or as His counselor taught Him?
Yes 40:14 With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of right-ruling? Who taught Him knowledge, and showed Him the way of understanding?
Yes 40:15 See, nations are as a drop in a bucket, and are reckoned as dust on the balance. See, He lifts up isles as fine dust.
Yes 40:16 And Leḇanon is not enough to burn, nor its beasts enough for a burnt offering.
Yes 40:17 All nations before Him are as a non-entity, and they are reckoned by Him as less than a speck, and emptiness.
Yes 40:18 And to whom would you liken Ěl? And what likeness would you compare to Him?
Yes 40:19 The workman moulds a graven image, and the goldsmith overspreads it with gold, and the silversmith casts silver chains.
Yes 40:20 He who is too poor for such an offering chooses a tree that does not rot. He seeks for himself a skilled craftsman to prepare a carved image that does not totter.
Yes 40:21 Did you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been declared to you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
Yes 40:22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in,
Yes 40:23 who brings princes to naught, shall make the rulers of the earth as emptiness.
Yes 40:24 Hardly have they been planted, hardly have they been sown, hardly has their stock taken root in the earth, when He shall blow on them and they wither, and a whirlwind take them away like stubble.
Yes 40:25 “And to whom then do you liken Me, or to whom am I compared?” says the Set-apart One.
Yes 40:26 Lift up your eyes on high and see. Who has created these? He who is bringing out their host by number, He calls them all by name, by the greatness of His might and the strength of His power – not one is missing.

Dev 4:9 רק השׁמר לך ושׁמר נפשׁך מאד פן־תשׁכח את־הדברים אשׁר־ראו עיניך ופן־יסורו מלבבך כל ימי חייך והודעתם לבניך ולבני בניך׃
Dev 4:10 יום אשׁר עמדת לפני יהוה אלהיך בחרב באמר יהוה אלי הקהל־לי את־העם ואשׁמעם את־דברי אשׁר ילמדון ליראה אתי כל־הימים אשׁר הם חיים על־האדמה ואת־בניהם ילמדון׃
Dev 4:11 ותקרבון ותעמדון תחת ההר וההר בער באשׁ עד־לב השׁמים חשׁך ענן וערפל׃
Dev 4:12 וידבר יהוה אליכם מתוך האשׁ קול דברים אתם שׁמעים ותמונה אינכם ראים זולתי קול׃
Dev 4:13 ויגד לכם את־בריתו אשׁר צוה אתכם לעשׂות עשׂרת הדברים ויכתבם על־שׁני לחות אבנים׃
Dev 4:14 ואתי צוה יהוה בעת ההוא ללמד אתכם חקים ומשׁפטים לעשׂתכם אתם בארץ אשׁר אתם עברים שׁמה לרשׁתה׃
Dev 4:15 ונשׁמרתם מאד לנפשׁתיכם כי לא ראיתם כל־תמונה ביום דבר יהוה אליכם בחרב מתוך האשׁ׃
Dev 4:16 פן־תשׁחתון ועשׂיתם לכם פסל תמונת כל־סמל תבנית זכר או נקבה׃
Dev 4:17 תבנית כל־בהמה אשׁר בארץ תבנית כל־צפור כנף אשׁר תעוף בשׁמים׃
Dev 4:18 תבנית כל־רמשׂ באדמה תבנית כל־דגה אשׁר־במים מתחת לארץ׃
Dev 4:19 ופן־תשׂא עיניך השׁמימה וראית את־השׁמשׁ ואת־הירח ואת־הכוכבים כל צבא השׁמים ונדחת והשׁתחוית להם ועבדתם אשׁר חלק יהוה אלהיך אתם לכל העמים תחת כל־השׁמים׃
Dev 4:20 ואתכם לקח יהוה ויוצא אתכם מכור הברזל ממצרים להיות לו לעם נחלה כיום הזה׃
Dev 4:21 ויהוה התאנף־בי על־דבריכם וישׁבע לבלתי עברי את־הירדן ולבלתי־בא אל־הארץ הטובה אשׁר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך נחלה׃
Dev 4:22 כי אנכי מת בארץ הזאת אינני עבר את־הירדן ואתם עברים וירשׁתם את־הארץ הטובה הזאת׃
Dev 4:23 השׁמרו לכם פן־תשׁכחו את־ברית יהוה אלהיכם אשׁר כרת עמכם ועשׂיתם לכם פסל תמונת כל אשׁר צוך יהוה אלהיך׃
Dev 4:24 כי יהוה אלהיך אשׁ אכלה הוא אל קנא׃
Dev 4:25 כי־תוליד בנים ובני בנים ונושׁנתם בארץ והשׁחתם ועשׂיתם פסל תמונת כל ועשׂיתם הרע בעיני יהוה־אלהיך להכעיסו׃
Dev 4:26 העידתי בכם היום את־השׁמים ואת־הארץ כי־אבד תאבדון מהר מעל הארץ אשׁר אתם עברים את־הירדן שׁמה לרשׁתה לא־תאריכן ימים עליה כי השׁמד תשׁמדון׃
Dev 4:27 והפיץ יהוה אתכם בעמים ונשׁארתם מתי מספר בגוים אשׁר ינהג יהוה אתכם שׁמה׃
Dev 4:28 ועבדתם־שׁם אלהים מעשׂה ידי אדם עץ ואבן אשׁר לא־יראון ולא ישׁמעון ולא יאכלון ולא יריחן׃
Dev 4:29 ובקשׁתם משׁם את־יהוה אלהיך ומצאת כי תדרשׁנו בכל־לבבך ובכל־נפשׁך׃
Dev 4:30 בצר לך ומצאוך כל הדברים האלה באחרית הימים ושׁבת עד־יהוה אלהיך ושׁמעת בקלו׃
Dev 4:31 כי אל רחום יהוה אלהיך לא ירפך ולא ישׁחיתך ולא ישׁכח את־ברית אבתיך אשׁר נשׁבע להם׃
Dev 4:32 כי שׁאל־נא לימים ראשׁנים אשׁר־היו לפניך למן־היום אשׁר ברא אלהים אדם על־הארץ ולמקצה השׁמים ועד־קצה השׁמים הנהיה כדבר הגדול הזה או הנשׁמע כמהו׃
Dev 4:33 השׁמע עם קול אלהים מדבר מתוך־האשׁ כאשׁר־שׁמעת אתה ויחי׃
Dev 4:34 או הנסה אלהים לבוא לקחת לו גוי מקרב גוי במסת באתת ובמופתים ובמלחמה וביד חזקה ובזרוע נטויה ובמוראים גדלים ככל אשׁר־עשׂה לכם יהוה אלהיכם במצרים לעיניך׃
Dev 4:35 אתה הראת לדעת כי יהוה הוא האלהים אין עוד מלבדו׃
Dev 4:36 מן־השׁמים השׁמיעך את־קלו ליסרך ועל־הארץ הראך את־אשׁו הגדולה ודבריו שׁמעת מתוך האשׁ׃
Dev 4:37 ותחת כי אהב את־אבתיך ויבחר בזרעו אחריו ויוצאך בפניו בכחו הגדל ממצרים׃
Dev 4:38 להורישׁ גוים גדלים ועצמים ממך מפניך להביאך לתת־לך את־ארצם נחלה כיום הזה׃
Dev 4:39 וידעת היום והשׁבת אל־לבבך כי יהוה הוא האלהים בשׁמים ממעל ועל־הארץ מתחת אין עוד׃
Dev 4:40 ושׁמרת את־חקיו ואת־מצותיו אשׁר אנכי מצוך היום אשׁר ייטב לך ולבניך אחריך ולמען תאריך ימים על־האדמה אשׁר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך כל־הימים׃
Dev 4:41 אז יבדיל משׁה שׁלשׁ ערים בעבר הירדן מזרחה שׁמשׁ׃
Dev 4:42 לנס שׁמה רוצח אשׁר ירצח את־רעהו בבלי־דעת והוא לא־שׂנא לו מתמל שׁלשׁם ונס אל־אחת מן־הערים האל וחי׃
Dev 4:43 את־בצר במדבר בארץ המישׁר לראובני ואת־ראמת בגלעד לגדי ואת־גולן בבשׁן למנשׁי׃
Dev 4:44 וזאת התורה אשׁר־שׂם משׁה לפני בני ישׂראל׃
Dev 4:45 אלה העדת והחקים והמשׁפטים אשׁר דבר משׁה אל־בני ישׂראל בצאתם ממצרים׃
Dev 4:46 בעבר הירדן בגיא מול בית פעור בארץ סיחן מלך האמרי אשׁר יושׁב בחשׁבון אשׁר הכה משׁה ובני ישׂראל בצאתם ממצרים׃
Dev 4:47 ויירשׁו את־ארצו ואת־ארץ עוג מלך־הבשׁן שׁני מלכי האמרי אשׁר בעבר הירדן מזרח שׁמשׁ׃
Dev 4:48 מערער אשׁר על־שׂפת־נחל ארנן ועד־הר שׂיאן הוא חרמון׃
Dev 4:49 וכל־הערבה עבר הירדן מזרחה ועד ים הערבה תחת אשׁדת הפסגה׃
Dev 5:1 ויקרא משׁה אל־כל־ישׂראל ויאמר אלהם שׁמע ישׂראל את־החקים ואת־המשׁפטים אשׁר אנכי דבר באזניכם היום ולמדתם אתם ושׁמרתם לעשׂתם׃
Dev 5:2 יהוה אלהינו כרת עמנו ברית בחרב׃
Dev 5:3 לא את־אבתינו כרת יהוה את־הברית הזאת כי אתנו אנחנו אלה פה היום כלנו חיים׃
Dev 5:4 פנים בפנים דבר יהוה עמכם בהר מתוך האשׁ׃
Dev 5:5 אנכי עמד בין־יהוה וביניכם בעת ההוא להגיד לכם את־דבר יהוה כי יראתם מפני האשׁ ולא־עליתם בהר לאמר׃
Dev 5:6 אנכי יהוה אלהיך אשׁר הוצאתיך מארץ מצרים מבית עבדים׃
Dev 5:7 לא יהיה־לך אלהים אחרים על־פני׃
Dev 5:8 לא־תעשׂה־לך פסל כל־תמונה אשׁר בשׁמים ממעל ואשׁר בארץ מתחת ואשׁר במים מתחת לארץ׃
Dev 5:9 לא־תשׁתחוה להם ולא תעבדם כי אנכי יהוה אלהיך אל קנא פקד עון אבות על־בנים ועל־שׁלשׁים ועל־רבעים לשׂנאי׃
Dev 5:10 ועשׂה חסד לאלפים לאהבי ולשׁמרי מצותו׃
Dev 5:11 לא תשׂא את־שׁם־יהוה אלהיך לשׁוא כי לא ינקה יהוה את אשׁר־ישׂא את־שׁמו לשׁוא׃
Dev 5:12 שׁמור את־יום השׁבת לקדשׁו כאשׁר צוך יהוה אלהיך׃
Dev 5:13 שׁשׁת ימים תעבד ועשׂית כל־מלאכתך׃
Dev 5:14 ויום השׁביעי שׁבת ליהוה אלהיך לא תעשׂה כל־מלאכה אתה ובנך־ובתך ועבדך־ואמתך ושׁורך וחמרך וכל־בהמתך וגרך אשׁר בשׁעריך למען ינוח עבדך ואמתך כמוך׃
Dev 5:15 וזכרת כי־עבד היית בארץ מצרים ויצאך יהוה אלהיך משׁם ביד חזקה ובזרע נטויה על־כן צוך יהוה אלהיך לעשׂות את־יום השׁבת׃
Dev 5:16 כבד את־אביך ואת־אמך כאשׁר צוך יהוה אלהיך למען יאריכן ימיך ולמען ייטב לך על האדמה אשׁר־יהוה אלהיך נתן לך׃
Dev 5:17 לא תרצח׃
Dev 5:18 ולא תנאף׃
Dev 5:19 ולא תגנב׃
Dev 5:20 ולא־תענה ברעך עד שׁוא׃
Dev 5:21 ולא תחמד אשׁת רעך ולא תתאוה בית רעך שׂדהו ועבדו ואמתו שׁורו וחמרו וכל אשׁר לרעך׃
Dev 5:22 את־הדברים האלה דבר יהוה אל־כל־קהלכם בהר מתוך האשׁ הענן והערפל קול גדול ולא יסף ויכתבם על־שׁני לחת אבנים ויתנם אלי׃
Dev 5:23 ויהי כשׁמעכם את־הקול מתוך החשׁך וההר בער באשׁ ותקרבון אלי כל־ראשׁי שׁבטיכם וזקניכם׃
Dev 5:24 ותאמרו הן הראנו יהוה אלהינו את־כבדו ואת־גדלו ואת־קלו שׁמענו מתוך האשׁ היום הזה ראינו כי־ידבר אלהים את־האדם וחי׃
Dev 5:25 ועתה למה נמות כי תאכלנו האשׁ הגדלה הזאת אם־יספים אנחנו לשׁמע את־קול יהוה אלהינו עוד ומתנו׃
Dev 5:26 כי מי כל־בשׂר אשׁר שׁמע קול אלהים חיים מדבר מתוך־האשׁ כמנו ויחי׃
Dev 5:27 קרב אתה ושׁמע את כל־אשׁר יאמר יהוה אלהינו ואת תדבר אלינו את כל־אשׁר ידבר יהוה אלהינו אליך ושׁמענו ועשׂינו׃
Dev 5:28 וישׁמע יהוה את־קול דבריכם בדברכם אלי ויאמר יהוה אלי שׁמעתי את־קול דברי העם הזה אשׁר דברו אליך היטיבו כל־אשׁר דברו׃
Dev 5:29 מי־יתן והיה לבבם זה להם ליראה אתי ולשׁמר את־כל־מצותי כל־הימים למען ייטב להם ולבניהם לעלם׃
Dev 5:30 לך אמר להם שׁובו לכם לאהליכם׃
Dev 5:31 ואתה פה עמד עמדי ואדברה אליך את כל־המצוה והחקים והמשׁפטים אשׁר תלמדם ועשׂו בארץ אשׁר אנכי נתן להם לרשׁתה׃
Dev 5:32 ושׁמרתם לעשׂות כאשׁר צוה יהוה אלהיכם אתכם לא תסרו ימין ושׂמאל׃
Dev 5:33 בכל־הדרך אשׁר צוה יהוה אלהיכם אתכם תלכו למען תחיון וטוב לכם והארכתם ימים בארץ אשׁר תירשׁון׃
Dev 6:1 וזאת המצוה החקים והמשׁפטים אשׁר צוה יהוה אלהיכם ללמד אתכם לעשׂות בארץ אשׁר אתם עברים שׁמה לרשׁתה׃
Dev 6:2 למען תירא את־יהוה אלהיך לשׁמר את־כל־חקתיו ומצותיו אשׁר אנכי מצוך אתה ובנך ובן־בנך כל ימי חייך ולמען יארכן ימיך׃
Dev 6:3 ושׁמעת ישׂראל ושׁמרת לעשׂות אשׁר ייטב לך ואשׁר תרבון מאד כאשׁר דבר יהוה אלהי אבתיך לך ארץ זבת חלב ודבשׁ׃
Dev 6:4 שׁמע ישׂראל יהוה אלהינו יהוה אחד׃
Dev 6:5 ואהבת את יהוה אלהיך בכל־לבבך ובכל־נפשׁך ובכל־מאדך׃
Dev 6:6 והיו הדברים האלה אשׁר אנכי מצוך היום על־לבבך׃
Dev 6:7 ושׁננתם לבניך ודברת בם בשׁבתך בביתך ובלכתך בדרך ובשׁכבך ובקומך׃
Dev 6:8 וקשׁרתם לאות על־ידך והיו לטטפת בין עיניך׃
Dev 6:9 וכתבתם על־מזזות ביתך ובשׁעריך׃
Dev 6:10 והיה כי יביאך יהוה אלהיך אל־הארץ אשׁר נשׁבע לאבתיך לאברהם ליצחק וליעקב לתת לך ערים גדלת וטבת אשׁר לא־בנית׃
Dev 6:11 ובתים מלאים כל־טוב אשׁר לא־מלאת וברת חצובים אשׁר לא־חצבת כרמים וזיתים אשׁר לא־נטעת ואכלת ושׂבעת׃
Dev 6:12 השׁמר לך פן־תשׁכח את־יהוה אשׁר הוציאך מארץ מצרים מבית עבדים׃
Dev 6:13 את־יהוה אלהיך תירא ואתו תעבד ובשׁמו תשׁבע׃
Dev 6:14 לא תלכון אחרי אלהים אחרים מאלהי העמים אשׁר סביבותיכם׃
Dev 6:15 כי אל קנא יהוה אלהיך בקרבך פן־יחרה אף־יהוה אלהיך בך והשׁמידך מעל פני האדמה׃
Dev 6:16 לא תנסו את־יהוה אלהיכם כאשׁר נסיתם במסה׃
Dev 6:17 שׁמור תשׁמרון את־מצות יהוה אלהיכם ועדתיו וחקיו אשׁר צוך׃
Dev 6:18 ועשׂית הישׁר והטוב בעיני יהוה למען ייטב לך ובאת וירשׁת את־הארץ הטבה אשׁר־נשׁבע יהוה לאבתיך׃
Dev 6:19 להדף את־כל־איביך מפניך כאשׁר דבר יהוה׃
Dev 6:20 כי־ישׁאלך בנך מחר לאמר מה העדת והחקים והמשׁפטים אשׁר צוה יהוה אלהינו אתכם׃
Dev 6:21 ואמרת לבנך עבדים היינו לפרעה במצרים ויציאנו יהוה ממצרים ביד חזקה׃
Dev 6:22 ויתן יהוה אותת ומפתים גדלים ורעים במצרים בפרעה ובכל־ביתו לעינינו׃
Dev 6:23 ואותנו הוציא משׁם למען הביא אתנו לתת לנו את־הארץ אשׁר נשׁבע לאבתינו׃
Dev 6:24 ויצונו יהוה לעשׂות את־כל־החקים האלה ליראה את־יהוה אלהינו לטוב לנו כל־הימים לחיתנו כהיום הזה׃
Dev 6:25 וצדקה תהיה־לנו כי־נשׁמר לעשׂות את־כל־המצוה הזאת לפני יהוה אלהינו כאשׁר צונו׃
Dev 7:1 כי יביאך יהוה אלהיך אל־הארץ אשׁר־אתה בא־שׁמה לרשׁתה ונשׁל גוים־רבים מפניך החתי והגרגשׁי והאמרי והכנעני והפרזי והחוי והיבוסי שׁבעה גוים רבים ועצומים ממך׃
Dev 7:2 ונתנם יהוה אלהיך לפניך והכיתם החרם תחרים אתם לא־תכרת להם ברית ולא תחנם׃
Dev 7:3 ולא תתחתן בם בתך לא־תתן לבנו ובתו לא־תקח לבנך׃
Dev 7:4 כי־יסיר את־בנך מאחרי ועבדו אלהים אחרים וחרה אף־יהוה בכם והשׁמידך מהר׃
Dev 7:5 כי־אם־כה תעשׂו להם מזבחתיהם תתצו ומצבתם תשׁברו ואשׁירהם תגדעון ופסיליהם תשׂרפון באשׁ׃
Dev 7:6 כי עם קדושׁ אתה ליהוה אלהיך בך בחר יהוה אלהיך להיות לו לעם סגלה מכל העמים אשׁר על־פני האדמה׃
Dev 7:7 לא מרבכם מכל־העמים חשׁק יהוה בכם ויבחר בכם כי־אתם המעט מכל־העמים׃
Dev 7:8 כי מאהבת יהוה אתכם ומשׁמרו את־השׁבעה אשׁר נשׁבע לאבתיכם הוציא יהוה אתכם ביד חזקה ויפדך מבית עבדים מיד פרעה מלך־מצרים׃
Dev 7:9 וידעת כי־יהוה אלהיך הוא האלהים האל הנאמן שׁמר הברית והחסד לאהביו ולשׁמרי מצותו לאלף דור׃
Dev 7:10 ומשׁלם לשׂנאיו אל־פניו להאבידו לא יאחר לשׂנאו אל־פניו ישׁלם־לו׃
Dev 7:11 ושׁמרת את־המצוה ואת־החקים ואת־המשׁפטים אשׁר אנכי מצוך היום לעשׂותם׃

Dev 3:23 “And I pleaded with יהוה at that time, saying,
Dev 3:24 ‘O Master יהוה, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand, for who is a mighty one in the heavens or on earth who does according to Your works and according to Your might?
Dev 3:25 ‘I pray, let me pass over and see the good land beyond the Yardĕn, this good hill country, and Leḇanon.’
Dev 3:26 “But יהוה was enraged with me, for your sake, and would not listen to me, and יהוה said to me, ‘Enough of that! Speak no more to Me about this matter.
Dev 3:27 ‘Go up to the top of Pisgah, and lift up your eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and look with your eyes, for you do not pass over this Yardĕn.
Dev 3:28 ‘But charge Y’hoshua, and strengthen him and make him brave, for he shall pass over before this people and causes them to inherit the land which you see.’
Dev 3:29 “And we dwelt in the valley opposite Bĕyth Peʽor.
Dev 4:1 “And now, O Yisra’ĕl, listen to the laws and the right-rulings which I am teaching you to do, so that you live, and shall go in and possess the land which יהוה Elohim of your fathers is giving you.

Dev 4:3 “Your eyes have seen what יהוה did at Baʽal Peʽor, for יהוה your Elohim has destroyed from your midst all the men who followed Baʽal Peʽor.
Dev 4:4 “But you who are clinging to יהוה your Elohim are alive today, every one of you.
Dev 4:5 “See, I have taught you laws and right-rulings, as יהוה my Elohim commanded me, to do thus in the land which you go to possess.
Dev 4:6 “And you shall guard and do them, for this is your wisdom and your understanding before the eyes of the peoples who hear all these laws, and they shall say, ‘Only a wise and understanding people is this great nation!’
Dev 4:7 “For what great nation is there which has Elohim so near to it, as יהוה our Elohim is to us, whenever we call on Him?
Dev 4:8 “And what great nation is there that has such laws and righteous right-rulings like all this Torah which I set before you this day?
Dev 4:9 “Only, guard yourself, and guard your life diligently, lest you forget the Words your eyes have seen, and lest they turn aside from your heart all the days of your life. And you shall make them known to your children and your grandchildren.
Dev 4:10 “The day when you stood before יהוה your Elohim in Ḥorĕḇ, יהוה said to me, ‘Assemble the people to Me and I make them hear My Words, so that they learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth and teach them to their children.’
Dev 4:11 “And you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the heart of the heavens – darkness, cloud, and thick darkness.
Dev 4:12 “And יהוה spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard a voice of words, but saw no form, you only heard a voice.
Dev 4:13 “And He made known to you His covenant which He commanded you to do, the Ten Words, and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.
Dev 4:14 “And יהוה commanded me at that time to teach you laws and right-rulings, for you to do them in the land which you pass over to possess.
Dev 4:15 “Therefore, diligently guard yourselves, for you saw no form when יהוה spoke to you at Ḥorĕḇ out of the midst of the fire,
Dev 4:16 lest you should do corruptly and shall make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure – the likeness of male or female,
Dev 4:17 the likeness of any beast that is on the earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the heavens,
Dev 4:18 the likeness of any creature that creeps on the ground or the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth;
Dev 4:19 and lest you lift up your eyes to the heavens, and shall see the sun, and the moon, and the stars – all the host of the heavens – and you be drawn away into bowing down to them and serving them, which יהוה your Elohim has allotted to all the peoples under all the heavens.
Dev 4:20 “But יהוה has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Mitsrayim, to be His people, an inheritance, as it is today.
Dev 4:21 “And יהוה was enraged with me because of your words, and swore that I would not pass over the Yardĕn, and that I would not enter the good land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you as an inheritance.
Dev 4:22 “For I am to die in this land, I am not passing over the Yardĕn, but you are passing over, and shall possess that good land.
Dev 4:23 “Guard yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of יהוה your Elohim which He made with you, and shall make for yourselves a carved image in the form of whatever יהוה your Elohim has forbidden you.
Dev 4:24 “For יהוה your Elohim is a consuming fire, a jealous Ěl.
Dev 4:25 “When you bring forth children and grandchildren, and shall grow old in the land, and shall do corruptly and make a carved image in the form of whatever, and shall do what is evil in the eyes of יהוה your Elohim to provoke Him,
Dev 4:26 “I shall call the heavens and earth to witness against you on that day, that you soon completely perish from the land which you pass over the Yardĕn to possess – you do not prolong your days in it but are completely destroyed.
Dev 4:27 “And יהוה shall scatter you among the peoples, and you shall be left few in number among the gentiles where יהוה drives you.
Dev 4:28 “And there you shall serve mighty ones, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.
Dev 4:29 “But from there you shall seek יהוה your Elohim, and shall find, when you search for Him with all your heart1 and with all your being. Footnote: 1Jer. 29:13.
Dev 4:30 “In your distress, when all these words shall come upon you in the latter days, then you shall return to יהוה your Elohim and shall obey His voice.
Dev 4:31 “For יהוה your Elohim is a compassionate Ěl, He does not forsake you, nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.
Dev 4:32 “For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that Elohim created man on the earth, and ask from one end of the heavens to the other end of the heavens, whether there has been a Word as great as this, or has been heard like it.
Dev 4:33 “Has a people heard the voice of Elohim speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live?
Dev 4:34 “Or has Elohim tried to go and take for Himself a nation from the midst of a nation by trials, and by signs, and by wonders, and by battle, and by a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and by great fearsome deeds, according to all that יהוה your Elohim did for you in Mitsrayim before your eyes?
Dev 4:35 “You have been shown it, to know that יהוה Himself is Elohim; there is no one beside Him.
Dev 4:36 “From the heavens He let you hear His voice, to instruct you, and on earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words out of the midst of the fire.
Dev 4:37 “And because He loved your fathers, therefore He chose their seed after them, and brought you out of Mitsrayim with His Presence, with His great power,
Dev 4:38 to drive out from before you nations greater and stronger than you, to bring you in, to give you their land as an inheritance, as it is today.
Dev 4:39 “And you shall know today, and shall recall to your heart that יהוה Himself is Elohim in the heavens above and on the earth beneath; there is none else.
Dev 4:40 “And you shall guard His laws and His mitzvot which I command you today, so that it is well with you and with your children after you, and so that you prolong your days on the soil which יהוה your Elohim is giving you for all time.”
Dev 4:41 Then Moshe separated three cities beyond the Yardĕn, toward the rising of the sun,
Dev 4:42 for him who killed someone to flee there, he who kills his neighbor unintentionally, without having hated him in time past, and might flee to one of these cities and live:
Dev 4:43 Betser in the wilderness in the level land for the Re’uḇĕnites, and Ramoth in Gilʽaḏ for the Gaḏites, and Golan in Bashan for the Menashshites.
Dev 4:44 And this is the Torah which Moshe set before the children of Yisra’ĕl.
Dev 4:45 These are the witnesses, and the laws, and the right-rulings which Moshe spoke to the children of Yisra’ĕl after they came out of Mitsrayim,
Dev 4:46 beyond the Yardĕn, in the valley opposite Bĕyth Peʽor, in the land of Siḥon sovereign of the Amorites, who dwelt at Ḥeshbon, whom Moshe and the children of Yisra’ĕl had smitten after they came out of Mitsrayim.
Dev 4:47 And they took possession of his land and the land of Oḡ sovereign of Bashan, two sovereigns of the Amorites, who were beyond the Yardĕn, toward the rising of the sun,
Dev 4:48 from Aroʽĕr, which is on the bank of the wadi Arnon, even to Har Siyon, which is Ḥermon,
Dev 4:49 and all the desert plain beyond the Yardĕn as far as the Yam Araḇah, below the slopes of Pisgah.
Dev 5:1 And Moshe called all Yisra’ĕl, and said to them, “Hear, O Yisra’ĕl, the laws and right-rulings which I speak in your hearing today. And you shall learn them, and guard to do them.
Dev 5:2 “יהוה our Elohim made a covenant with us in Ḥorĕḇ.
Dev 5:3 “יהוה did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those who are here today, all of us who are alive.
Dev 5:4 “יהוה spoke with you face to face on the mountain from the midst of the fire.
Dev 5:5 “I stood between יהוה and you at that time, to declare to you the Word of יהוה – for you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up the mountain – saying:
Dev 5:6 ‘I am יהוה your Elohim who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, out of the house of bondage.
Dev 5:7 ‘You have no other mighty ones against My face.
Dev 5:8 ‘You do not make for yourself a carved image, any likeness of which is in the heavens above, or which is in the earth beneath, or which is in the waters under the earth,
Dev 5:9 you do not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, יהוה your Elohim, am a jealous Ěl, visiting the crookedness of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,
Dev 5:10 but showing kindness to thousands, to those who love Me and guard My mitzvot.
Dev 5:11 ‘You do not bring1 the Name of יהוה your Elohim to naught, for יהוה does not leave him unpunished who brings His Name to naught. Footnote: 1Or lift up, or take.
Dev 5:12 ‘Guard the Shabbat, to set it apart, as יהוה your Elohim commanded you.
Dev 5:13 ‘Six days you labor, and shall do all your work,
Dev 5:14 but the seventh day is a Shabbat1 of יהוה your Elohim. You do not do any work – you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male slave, nor your female slave, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, so that your male slave and your female slave rest as you do. Dev 5:15 ‘And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Mitsrayim, and that יהוה your Elohim brought you out from there by a strong hand and by an outstretched arm. Therefore יהוה your Elohim commanded you to observe the Shabbat.
Dev 5:16 ‘Respect your father and your mother, as יהוה your Elohim has commanded you, so that your days are prolonged, and so that it is well with you on the soil which יהוה your Elohim is giving you.
Dev 5:17 ‘You do not murder.
Dev 5:18 ‘You do not commit adultery.
Dev 5:19 ‘You do not steal.
Dev 5:20 ‘You do not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Dev 5:21 ‘You do not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor do you desire your neighbor’s house, his field, nor his male slave, nor his female slave, his ox, nor his donkey, or whatever belongs to your neighbor.’
Dev 5:22 “These Words יהוה spoke to all your assembly, in the mountain from the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a loud voice, and He added no more. And He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.
Dev 5:23 “And it came to be, when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, that you came near to me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders,
Dev 5:24 and said, ‘See, יהוה our Elohim has shown us His esteem and His greatness, and we have heard His voice from the midst of the fire. Today we have seen that Elohim speaks with man – and he lives!
Dev 5:25 ‘And now why should we die? For this great fire is consuming us. If we hear the voice of יהוה our Elohim any more, then we shall die.
Dev 5:26 ‘For who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living Elohim speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and does live?
Dev 5:27 ‘You go near and hear all that יהוה our Elohim says, and speak to us all that יהוה our Elohim says to you, and we shall hear and do it.’
Dev 5:28 “And יהוה heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me, and יהוה said to me, ‘I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken.
Dev 5:29 ‘Oh, that they had such a heart in them, to fear Me and to guard all My mitzvot always, so that it might be well with them and with their children forever!
Dev 5:30 ‘Go, say to them, “Return to your tents.”
Dev 5:31 ‘But you, stand here by Me, and let Me speak to you all the mitzvot, and the laws, and the right-rulings which you are to teach them. And they shall do them in the land which I am giving them to possess.’
Dev 5:32 “And you shall guard to do as יהוה your Elohim has commanded you – do not turn aside, to the right or to the left.
Dev 5:33 “Walk in all the way which יהוה your Elohim has commanded you, so that you live and it be well with you. And you shall prolong your days in the land which you possess.
Dev 6:1 “And this is the mitzvah, the laws and right-rulings which יהוה your Elohim has commanded, to teach you to do in the land which you are passing over to possess,
Dev 6:2 so that you fear יהוה your Elohim, to guard all His laws and His mitzvot which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days be prolonged.
Dev 6:3 “And you shall hear, O Yisra’ĕl, and shall guard to do, that it might be well with you, and that you increase greatly as יהוה Elohim of your fathers has spoken to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.
Dev 6:4 “Hear, O Yisra’ĕl: יהוה our Elohim, יהוה is one!
Dev 6:5 “And you shall love יהוה your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your might.
Dev 6:6 “And these Words which I am commanding you today shall be in your heart,
Dev 6:7 and you shall impress them upon your children, and shall speak of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up,
Dev 6:8 and shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
Dev 6:9 “And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Dev 6:10 “And it shall be, when יהוה your Elohim brings you into the land of which He swore to your fathers, to Avraham, to Yitzchak, and to Ya`akov, to give you great and good cities which you did not build,
Dev 6:11 and houses filled with all kinds of goods, which you did not fill, and wells dug which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, and you shall eat and be satisfied –
Dev 6:12 be on guard, lest you forget יהוה who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, from the house of bondage.
Dev 6:13 “Fear יהוה your Elohim and serve Him, and swear by His Name.
Dev 6:14 “Do not go after other mighty ones, the mighty ones of the peoples who are all around you,
Dev 6:15 for יהוה your Elohim is a jealous Ěl in your midst, lest the displeasure of יהוה your Elohim burn against you, then He shall destroy you from the face of the earth.
Dev 6:16 “Do not try יהוה your Elohim as you tried Him in Massah.
Dev 6:17 “Diligently guard the mitzvot of יהוה your Elohim, and His witnesses, and His laws which He has commanded you.
Dev 6:18 “And you shall do what is right and good in the eyes of יהוה, that it might be well with you, and you shall go in and possess the good land of which יהוה swore to your fathers,
Dev 6:19 to drive out all your enemies from before you, as יהוה has spoken.
Dev 6:20 “When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is the meaning of the witnesses, and the laws, and the right-rulings which יהוה our Elohim has commanded you?’
Dev 6:21 then you shall say to your son, ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Mitsrayim, and יהוה brought us out of Mitsrayim with a strong hand,
Dev 6:22 and יהוה sent signs and wonders, great and grievous, upon Mitsrayim, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes.
Dev 6:23 ‘And He brought us out from there, to bring us in, to give us the land of which He swore to our fathers.
Dev 6:24 ‘And יהוה commanded us to do all these laws, to fear יהוה our Elohim, for our good always, to keep us alive, as it is today.
Dev 6:25 ‘And it is righteousness for us when we guard to do all these mitzvot before יהוה our Elohim, as He has commanded us.’
Dev 7:1 “When יהוה your Elohim brings you into the land which you go to possess, He shall also clear away many nations before you: the Ḥittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Kenaʽanites and the Perizzites and the Ḥiwwites and the Yeḇusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you.
Dev 7:2 “And when יהוה your Elohim gives them over to you, you shall smite them and put them under the ban, completely. Make no covenant with them, and show them no favor.
Dev 7:3 “And do not intermarry with them – you do not give your daughter to his son, and you do not take his daughter for your son,
Dev 7:4 for he turns your sons away from following Me, to serve other mighty ones. Then the displeasure of יהוה shall burn against you and promptly destroy you.
Dev 7:5 “But this is what you do to them: Break down their altars, and smash their pillars, and cut down their Ashĕrim, and burn their carved images with fire.
Dev 7:6 “For you are a kadosh people to יהוה your Elohim. יהוה your Elohim has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a treasured possession above all the peoples on the face of the earth.
Dev 7:7 “יהוה did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more numerous than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples,
Dev 7:8 but because of יהוה loving you, and because of Him guarding the oath which He swore to your fathers, יהוה has brought you out with a strong hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh sovereign of Mitsrayim.
Dev 7:9 “And you shall know that יהוה your Elohim, He is Elohim, the trustworthy Ěl guarding covenant and kindness for a thousand generations with those who love Him, and those who guard His mitzvot,
Dev 7:10 but repaying those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He does not delay to do so with him who hates Him, He repays him to his face.
Dev 7:11 “And you shall guard the mitzvot, and the laws, and the right-rulings which I command you today, to do them.
