Mark 13-14

Ki Tisa Gospel
Mark 13-14
Mar 13:1 And as He went out of the Kodesh, one of His talmidim said to Him, “Rabbi, see what stones! And what buildings!”
Mar 13:2 And יהושע answering, said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon another at all, which shall not be thrown down.”1 Footnote: 1Mt.24.
Mar 13:3 And as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the Kodesh, Kĕpha, and Ya`akov̱, and Yochanan, and Andri asked Him separately,
Mar 13:4 “Say to us, when shall these events be? And what shall be the sign when all this is going to be accomplished?”
Mar 13:5 And יהושע began to say to them, “Take heed that no one leads you astray,
Mar 13:6 for many shall come in My Name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and they shall lead many astray.
Mar 13:7 “And when you hear of fighting and reports of fighting, do not be troubled – it has to take place, but the end is not yet.
Mar 13:8 “For nation shall rise against nation, and reign against reign. And there shall be earthquakes in various places, and there shall be scarcities of food, and disturbances. These are the beginnings of birth-pains.
Mar 13:9 “But take heed to yourselves, for they shall deliver you up to councils and to congregations. You shall be beaten, and you shall be brought before rulers and sovereigns for My sake, for a witness to them.
Mar 13:10 “And the Gospel has to be proclaimed first to all the nations.
Mar 13:11 “And when they lead you away and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand what you are to say. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that, for it is not you who are speaking, but the Ruach HaKadosh.
Mar 13:12 “And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and a father his child. And children shall rise up against parents and shall put them to death.
Mar 13:13 “And you shall be hated by all because of My Name. But he who endures to the end, he shall be saved.1 Footnote: 1Mt. 10:22, Mt. 24:13.
Mar 13:14 “And when you see the ‘abomination that lays waste,’1 spoken of by Dani’ĕl HaNavi, set up where it should not be” – he who reads, let him understand – “then let those who are in Yehuḏah flee to the mountains. Footnote: 1See Abomination that lays waste in Explanatory Notes.
Mar 13:15 “And he who is on the house-top, let him not go down into the house, nor come in to take whatever out of his house.
Mar 13:16 “And he who is in the field, let him not go back to get his cloak.
Mar 13:17 “And woe to those who are pregnant and to those nursing children in those days!
Mar 13:18 “And pray that your flight does not take place in winter.
Mar 13:19 “For in those days there shall be distress, such as has not been from the beginning of creation which Elohim created until this time, nor ever shall be.
Mar 13:20 “And if the Master had not shortened those days, no flesh would have been saved; but because of the chosen ones, whom He chose, He shortened the days.
Mar 13:21 “And if anyone then says to you, ‘Look, here is HaMashiach!’ or, ‘Look, there!’ do not believe it.
Mar 13:22 “For false messiahs and false prophets shall rise and show signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, even the chosen ones.
Mar 13:23 “And you, take heed. See, I have forewarned you of it all.
Mar 13:24 “But in those days, after that distress, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give its light,
Mar 13:25 and the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers in the heavens shall be shaken.
Mar 13:26 “And then they shall see the Son of Aḏam coming in the clouds with much power and esteem.
Mar 13:27 “And then He shall send His Melachim, and assemble His chosen ones from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.
Mar 13:28 “And learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that the summer is near.
Mar 13:29 “So you also, when you see these taking place, know that it is near, at the door.
Mar 13:30 “Truly, I say to you, this generation shall by no means pass away till all this takes place.
Mar 13:31 “The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but My words shall by no means pass away.
Mar 13:32 “But concerning that day and the hour no one knows, not even the Melachim in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Mar 13:33 “Take heed, watch and pray, for you do not know when the time is –
Mar 13:34 as a man going abroad, having left his house and given authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.
Mar 13:35 “Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming – in the evening or at midnight, or at the crowing of the cock, or in the morning,
Mar 13:36 lest, coming suddenly, he should find you sleeping.
Mar 13:37 “And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!”
Mar 14:1 Now Pesach and Chag Matzot was after two days. And the chief kohanim and the scribes were seeking how to take Him through treachery and put Him to death.
Mar 14:2 And they said, “Not at the festival, lest there shall be an uproar of the people.”
Mar 14:3 And while He was in Bĕyth Anyah in the house of Shimʽon the leper, and sitting at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of perfume, genuine nard, very costly. And breaking the flask she poured it on His head.
Mar 14:4 But there were some who were much displeased among themselves, and said, “Why was this perfume wasted?
Mar 14:5 “For it could have been sold for more than three hundred pieces of silver and given to the poor.” And they were scolding her.
Mar 14:6 But יהושע said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me.
Mar 14:7 “For you have the poor with you always, and you are able do good to them, whenever you wish. But you do not always have Me.
Mar 14:8 “What she had, she used. She took it beforehand to anoint My body for the burial.
Mar 14:9 “Truly, I say to you, wherever this Good News is proclaimed in all the world, what this woman did shall also be spoken of, to her remembrance.”
Mar 14:10 And Yehuḏah from Qerioth, one of the twelve, went to the chief kohanim to deliver Him up to them.
Mar 14:11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him silver. And he was seeking how to deliver Him up, conveniently.
Mar 14:12 And on the first day of Chag Matzot, when they were slaughtering the Pesach lamb, His talmidim said to Him, “Where do You wish us to go and prepare, for You to eat the Seder?”
Mar 14:13 And He sent out two of His talmidim and said to them, “Go into the city, and there a man bearing a jar of water shall meet you, follow him.
Mar 14:14 “And wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Rabbi says, “Where is the guest room in which I am to eat the Seder with My talmidim?” ’
Mar 14:15 “And he shall show you a large upper room, furnished, ready. Prepare for us there.”
Mar 14:16 And His talmidim went out and came into the city, and found it as He said to them, and they prepared the Seder.
Mar 14:17 And evening having come, He came with the twelve.
Mar 14:18 And as they sat and ate, יהושע said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you who is eating with Me shall deliver Me up.”
Mar 14:19 And they began to be grieved, and to say to Him one by one, “Is it I?” And another, “Is it I?”
Mar 14:20 And He answering, said to them, “It is one of the twelve, he who is dipping with Me in the dish.
Mar 14:21 “The Son of Aḏam is indeed going, as it has been written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Aḏam is delivered up! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.”
Mar 14:22 And as they were eating, יהושע took matzah, having blessed, broke it, gave it to them and said, “Take, eat, this is My body.”
Mar 14:23 And taking the cup, giving thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
Mar 14:24 And He said to them, “This is My blood, that of the renewed covenant, which is shed for many.
Mar 14:25 “Truly, I say to you, I shall certainly no more drink of the fruit of the vine till that day when I drink it anew in the reign of Elohim.”
Mar 14:26 And having sung a song, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Mar 14:27 And יהושע said to them, “All of you shall stumble in Me this night, for it has been written, ‘I shall strike the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.’
Mar 14:28 “But after I am raised, I shall go before you to Galil.”
Mar 14:29 And Kĕpha said to Him, “Even if all shall stumble, yet not I.”
Mar 14:30 And יהושע said to him, “Truly, I say to you that today, this night, before the cock shall crow twice, you shall deny Me three times.”
Mar 14:31 But he spoke more strongly, “If I have to die with You, I shall not deny You!” And they all said the same.
Mar 14:32 And they came to a place called Gethsemane. And He said to His talmidim, “Sit here while I pray.”
Mar 14:33 And He took with Him Kĕpha, and Ya`akov̱, and Yochanan, and He began to be greatly amazed, and to be deeply distressed.
Mar 14:34 And He said to them, “My being is exceedingly grieved, even to death. Stay here and watch.”
Mar 14:35 And He went on a little, and fell on the ground, and was praying that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him.
Mar 14:36 And He said, “Abba, Father, all is possible for You. Make this cup pass from Me. Yet not what I desire, but what You desire.”
Mar 14:37 And He came and found them sleeping, and said to Kĕpha, “Shimʽon, are you sleeping? You were not able to watch one hour!
Mar 14:38 “Watch and pray, lest you enter into trial. The spirit indeed is eager, but the flesh is weak.”
Mar 14:39 And again He went away and prayed, and spoke the same words.
Mar 14:40 And having returned, He found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. And they did not know what to answer Him.
Mar 14:41 And He came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? It is enough! The hour has come. See, the Son of Aḏam is being delivered up into the hands of the sinners.
Mar 14:42 “Rise up, let us go. See, he who is delivering Me up has drawn near.”
Mar 14:43 And immediately, while He was still speaking, Yehuḏah, one of the twelve, with a large crowd with swords and clubs, came from the chief kohanim and the scribes and the elders.
Mar 14:44 And the one who was delivering Him up had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I kiss, it is He – seize Him and lead Him away safely.”
Mar 14:45 And coming, going straight up to Him, he said to Him, “Rabbi, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.
Mar 14:46 And they laid their hands on Him and seized Him.
Mar 14:47 And one of those standing by drew his sword and struck the servant of the Kohen Gadol, and cut off his ear.
Mar 14:48 And יהושע answering, said to them, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs, to take Me?
Mar 14:49 “Daily I was with you in the Kodesh teaching, and you did not seize Me. But let the Scriptures be filled.”
Mar 14:50 And they all left Him and fled.
Mar 14:51 And a certain young man was following Him, having a linen cloth thrown around his naked body. And when they seized him,
Mar 14:52 he left the linen cloth and fled from them naked.
Mar 14:53 And they led יהושע away to the Kohen Gadol. And all the chief kohanim, and the elders, and the scribes came together to Him.
Mar 14:54 And Kĕpha followed Him at a distance, even into the courtyard of the Kohen Gadol. And he was sitting with the officers and warming himself at the fire.
Mar 14:55 And the chief kohanim and all the council were seeking witness against יהושע to put Him to death, and they were finding none.
Mar 14:56 For many bore false witness against Him, but their evidences did not agree.
Mar 14:57 And some rose up and bore false witness against Him, saying,
Mar 14:58 “We heard Him saying, ‘I shall destroy this bayith that is made with hands, and within three days I shall build another made without hands.’ ”
Mar 14:59 And not even then did their witness agree.
Mar 14:60 Then the Kohen Gadol stood up in the centre and asked יהושע, saying, “Have You no answer to make? What do these witness against You?”
Mar 14:61 But He remained silent and gave no answer. Again the Kohen Gadol asked Him, saying to Him, “Are You the Mashiach, the Son of the Blessed?”
Mar 14:62 And יהושע said, “I am, and you shall see the Son of Aḏam sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of the heaven.”
Mar 14:63 And tearing his garments, the Kohen Gadol said, “What further need do we have of witnesses?
Mar 14:64 “You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?” And they all condemned Him to be liable to death.
Mar 14:65 And some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, and to say to Him, “Prophesy!” And the officers struck Him with the palms of their hands.
Mar 14:66 And as Kĕpha was below in the courtyard, one of the slave girls of the Kohen Gadol came,
Mar 14:67 and seeing Kĕpha warming himself, she looked at him and said, “And you were with יהושע of Natsareth.”
Mar 14:68 But he denied it, saying, “I do not know nor understand what you are saying.” And he went out onto the porch, and a cock crowed.
Mar 14:69 And the slave girl saw him again, and began to say to those who stood by, “This is one of them.”
Mar 14:70 And again he was denying it. And after a little while those who stood by again said to Kĕpha, “Truly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean too, and your speech is alike.”
Mar 14:71 And he began to curse and swear, “I do not know this Man of whom you speak!”
Mar 14:72 And a second time the cock crowed. And Kĕpha remembered the word that יהושע had said to him, “Before the cock crows twice, you shall deny Me three times.” And thinking on it, he wept.

Ki Tisa Haftarah
Melachim Aleph 18:1-39
Melachim Aleph 18:1 And after many days it came to be that the word of יהוה came to Ěliyahu, in the third year, saying, “Go, present yourself to Aḥaḇ, and I give rain on the earth.”
Melachim Aleph 18:2 Thereupon Ěliyahu went to present himself to Aḥaḇ. And the famine in Shomeron was severe.
Melachim Aleph 18:3 And Aḥaḇ had called Oḇaḏyahu, who was over his house. Now Oḇaḏyahu feared יהוה exceedingly.
Melachim Aleph 18:4 And it came to be, while Izeḇel cut down the Nevi’im of יהוה, that Oḇaḏyahu had taken one hundred Nevi’im and hidden them, fifty to a cave, and had fed them with bread and water.
Melachim Aleph 18:5 And Aḥaḇ had said to Oḇaḏyahu, “Go into the land to all the springs of water and to all the wadis, it could be that we find grass to keep the horses and mules alive, and not have any livestock cut off.
Melachim Aleph 18:6 And they divided the land between them to pass over it, Aḥaḇ went one way by himself, and Oḇaḏyahu went another way by himself.
Melachim Aleph 18:7 And as Oḇaḏyahu was on his way, then see, Ěliyahu met him. And he recognized him, and fell on his face, and said, “Is that you, my master Ěliyahu?”
Melachim Aleph 18:8 And he answered him, “It is I. Go, say to your master, ‘Ěliyahu is here.’ ”
Melachim Aleph 18:9 And he said, “What have I sinned, that you are giving your servant into the hand of Aḥaḇ, to kill me?
Melachim Aleph 18:10 “As יהוה your Elohim lives, there is no nation or reign where my master has not sent to look for you. And when they said, ‘He is not here,’ he made the reign or nation swear that they could not find you.
Melachim Aleph 18:11 “And now you say, ‘Go, say to your master, “Ěliyahu is here” ’!
Melachim Aleph 18:12 “And it shall be, as soon as I am gone from you, that the Spirit of יהוה takes you away to a place I do not know. And I shall come to report to Aḥaḇ, and when he does not find you, he shall kill me. But I your servant have feared יהוה from my youth.
Melachim Aleph 18:13 “Was it not reported to my master what I did when Izeḇel slew the Nevi’im of יהוה, how I hid one hundred men of the Nevi’im of יהוה, fifty to a cave, and fed them with bread and water?
Melachim Aleph 18:14 “And now you say, ‘Go, say to your master, “Ěliyahu is here!” ’ Then he shall slay me.”
Melachim Aleph 18:15 And Ěliyahu said, “As יהוה of hosts lives, before whom I stand, I shall indeed show myself to him today.”
Melachim Aleph 18:16 Oḇaḏyahu then went to meet Aḥaḇ and informed him, and Aḥaḇ went to meet Ěliyahu.
Melachim Aleph 18:17 And it came to be, when Aḥaḇ saw Ěliyahu, that Aḥaḇ said to him, “Is that you, O disturber of Yisra’ĕl?”
Melachim Aleph 18:18 And he answered, “I have not disturbed Yisra’ĕl, but you and your father’s house, in that you have forsaken the mitzvot of יהוה, and you have followed the Lord.
Melachim Aleph 18:19 “And now, send and gather all Yisra’ĕl to me on Har Karmel, the four hundred and fifty prophets of the Lord, and the four hundred prophets of Ashĕrah, who eat at Izeḇel’s table.”
Melachim Aleph 18:20 Aḥaḇ then sent for all the children of Yisra’ĕl, and gathered the prophets on Har Karmel.
Melachim Aleph 18:21 And Ěliyahu came to all the people, and said, “How long would you keep hopping between two opinions? If יהוה is Elohim, follow Him; and if the Lord, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word.
Melachim Aleph 18:22 And Ěliyahu said to the people, “I alone am left a Navi of יהוה, but the prophets of the Lord are four hundred and fifty men.
Melachim Aleph 18:23 “Now let them give us two bulls. And let them choose one bull for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, but set no fire. And I, I prepare the other bull, and shall lay it on the wood, but set no fire.
Melachim Aleph 18:24 “And you shall call on the name of your elohim, and I, I call on the Name of יהוה. And the Elohim who answers by fire, He is Elohim.” So all the people answered and said, “The word is good.”
Melachim Aleph 18:25 And Ěliyahu said to the prophets of the Lord, “Choose one bull for yourselves and prepare it first, for you are many. And call on the name of your El, but set no fire.”
Melachim Aleph 18:26 So they took the bull which was given them, and prepared it, and called on the name of the Lord from morning even until noon, saying, “O Lord, answer us!” But there was no voice and no one answered. And they leaped about the altar which they had made.
Melachim Aleph 18:27 And it came to be at noon, that Ěliyahu taunted them and said, “Cry aloud, for he is an elohim; he is meditating, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or it could be that he is asleep and has to be awakened!”
Melachim Aleph 18:28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves, according to their ruling, with knives and spears, until the blood gushed out on them.
Melachim Aleph 18:29 And it came to be when midday was past, that they prophesied until the time of bringing the evening offering. But there was no voice and no one answered, and no one paying attention.
Melachim Aleph 18:30 Then Ěliyahu said to all the people, “Come closer to me.” And all the people came closer to him. And he repaired the altar of יהוה that was broken down.
Melachim Aleph 18:31 And Ěliyahu took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Ya`akov̱, to whom the word of יהוה had come, saying, “Yisra’ĕl is your name.”
Melachim Aleph 18:32 And with the stones he built an altar in the Name of יהוה. And he made a trench around the altar large enough to hold two seahs of seed.
Melachim Aleph 18:33 And he arranged the wood, and cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood, and said, “Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.”
Melachim Aleph 18:34 Then he said, “Do it a second time,” and they did it a second time. And he said, “Do it a third time,” and they did it a third time.
Melachim Aleph 18:35 And the water flowed around the altar, and he filled the trench with water too.
Melachim Aleph 18:36 And it came to be, at the time of bringing the evening offering, that Ěliyahu HaNavi came near and said, “יהוה Elohim of Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yisra’ĕl, let it be known today: You are Elohim in Yisra’ĕl, and I Your servant, have done all these matters by Your word.
Melachim Aleph 18:37 “Answer me, O יהוה, answer me, and let this people know that You are יהוה Elohim, and You shall turn their hearts back to You again.”
Melachim Aleph 18:38 Then the fire of יהוה fell and consumed the burnt offering, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench.
Melachim Aleph 18:39 And all the people saw, and fell on their faces, and said, “יהוה, He is Elohim! יהוה, He is Elohim!”
Melachim Aleph 18:1 And after many days it came to be that the word of יהוה came to Ěliyahu, in the third year, saying, “Go, present yourself to Aḥaḇ, and I give rain on the earth.”

Shemot 30:11 - 34:35
Shemot 30:11 And יהוה spoke to Moshe, saying,
Shemot 30:12 “When you elevate the heads (take a census) of the children of Yisra’ĕl, to register them, then each one shall give an atonement for his life to יהוה, when you register them, so that there is no plague among them when you register them.
Shemot 30:13 “Everyone among those who are registered is to give this: half a shekel according to the shekel of the kodesh, twenty gĕrahs being a shekel. The half-shekel is the contribution to יהוה.
Shemot 30:14 “Everyone passing over to be registered, from twenty years old and above, gives a contribution to יהוה.
Shemot 30:15 “The rich does not give more and the poor does not give less than half a shekel, when you give a contribution to יהוה, to make atonement for yourselves.
Shemot 30:16 “And you shall take the silver for the atonement from the children of Yisra’ĕl, and give it for the service of the Ohel Mo’ed. And it shall be to the children of Yisra’ĕl for a remembrance before יהוה, to make atonement for yourselves.”
Shemot 30:17 And יהוה spoke to Moshe, saying,
Shemot 30:18 “And you shall make a basin of bronze, with its stand also of bronze, for washing. And you shall put it between the Ohel Moed and the altar, and shall put water in it.
Shemot 30:19 “And Aharon and his sons shall wash from it their hands and their feet.
Shemot 30:20 “When they go into the Ohel Mo’ed, or when they come near the altar to attend, to burn an offering made by fire (‘ishshah) to יהוה, they wash with water, lest they die.
Shemot 30:21 “And they shall wash their hands and their feet, lest they die. And it shall be a Choq Olam to them, to him and his seed throughout their generations.”
Shemot 30:22 And יהוה spoke to Moshe, saying,
Shemot 30:23 “And take for yourself choice spices, five hundred shekels of liquid myrrh, and half as much – two hundred and fifty – of sweet-smelling cinnamon, and two hundred and fifty of sweet-smelling cane,
Shemot 30:24 and five hundred of cassia, according to the shekel of the kodesh, and a hin of olive oil.
Shemot 30:25 “And you shall make from these a kadosh anointing oil, a compound, blended, the work of a perfumer. It is a kadosh anointing oil.
Shemot 30:26 “And with it you shall anoint the Ohel Mo’ed and the aron of the Witness,
Shemot 30:27 and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense,
Shemot 30:28 and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin and its stand. *****
Shemot 30:29 “And you shall kadash them, and they shall be kodesh kodesh. Whatever touches them is to be kadash.
Shemot 30:30 “And you shall mashach (anoint with oil) Aharon and his sons, and kadash them, to kahan to Me.
Shemot 30:31 “And speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘This is a kodesh anointing oil to Me throughout your generations.
Shemot 30:32 ‘It shall not be poured on the flesh of a man, and make no other like it, according to its composition. It is kodesh haya kodesh to you.
Shemot 30:33 ‘Whoever compounds any like it, or whoever puts any of it on a stranger, shall be cut off from his people.’ ”
Shemot 30:34 And יהוה said to Moshe, “Take sweet spices, fragrant gum and cinnamon and galbanum, and clear frankincense with these sweet spices, all in equal amounts.
Shemot 30:35 “Then you shall make of these an incense, a compound, work of a perfumer, salted, clean, kodesh.
Shemot 30:36 “And you shall beat some of it very fine, and put some of it before the Witness in the Ohel Mo’ed where I meet with you, it is kodesh kodesh to you.
Shemot 30:37 “And the incense which you make, do not make any for yourselves, according to its composition, it is kodesh to you for יהוה.
Shemot 30:38 “Whoever makes any like it, to smell it, he shall be cut off from his people.”
Shemot 31:1 And יהוה spoke to Moshe, saying,
Shemot 31:2 “See, I have called by name Betsal’ĕl son of Uri, son of Ḥur, of the tribe of Yehuḏah,
Shemot 31:3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of Elohim in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all work,
Shemot 31:4 to make designs for work in gold, and in silver, and in bronze,
Shemot 31:5 and in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, and to work in all work.
Shemot 31:6 “And I, look I have appointed with him Oholiaḇ son of Aḥisamaḵ, of the tribe of Dan. And I have put wisdom in the hearts of everyone who is wise-hearted, and they shall make all that I have commanded you:
Shemot 31:7 the Ohel Mo’ed, and the aron of the Witness and the lid of atonement that is on it, and all the utensils of the Ohel,
Shemot 31:8 and the table and its utensils, and the clean gold lampstand with all its utensils, and the altar of incense,
Shemot 31:9 and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin and its stand,
Shemot 31:10 and the woven garments, and the kadosh garments for Aharon the kohen and the garments of his sons, for serving as kohanim,
Shemot 31:11 and the anointing oil and sweet incense for the Kodesh. According to all that I have commanded you, they are to do.”
Shemot 31:12 And יהוה spoke to Moshe, saying,
Shemot 31:13 “And you, speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘My Shabbaton you are to guard, by all means, for it is a sign1 between Me and you throughout your generations, to know that I, יהוה, am making you kodesh. Footnote: 1The only sign of יהוה setting us apart, the only sign of the everlasting covenant, is His Sabbaths, one of them being the seventh day Sabbath. This is repeated in Ezek. 20:12 & 20.
Shemot 31:14 ‘And you shall guard the Shabbat, for it is kadosh to you. Everyone who profanes it shall certainly be put to death, for anyone who does work on it, that being shall be cut off from among his people.
Shemot 31:15 ‘Six days work is done, and on the seventh is a Shabbat of rest, kadosh to יהוה. Everyone doing work on the Shabbat shall certainly be put to death.
Shemot 31:16 ‘And the children of Yisra’ĕl shall guard the Shabbat, to observe the Shabbat throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant (Olam Brit).
Shemot 31:17 ‘Between Me and the children of Yisra’ĕl it is a sign forever. For in six days יהוה made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’ ”
Shemot 31:18 And when He had ended speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moshe two tablets of the Witness, tablets of stone, written with the finger of Elohim.
Shemot 32:1 And when the people saw that Moshe was so long in coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aharon, and said to him, “Arise, make us elohim who go before us. For this Moshe, the man who brought us up out of the land of Mitsrayim, we do not know what has become of him.”
Shemot 32:2 And Aharon said to them, “Take off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.”
Shemot 32:3 “And all the people took off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aharon.
Shemot 32:4 And he took this from their hand, and he formed it with an engraving tool, and made a formed calf. And they said, “These are your Elohim, O Yisra’ĕl, that brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim!”
Shemot 32:5 And Aharon saw and built an altar before it. And Aharon called out and said, “Tomorrow is a festival to יהוה.”
Shemot 32:6 And they rose early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
Shemot 32:7 And יהוה said to Moshe, “Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Mitsrayim have corrupted themselves.
Shemot 32:8 “They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a formed calf, and have bowed themselves to it and slaughtered to it, and said, ‘These are your elohim, O Yisra’ĕl, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim!’ ”
Shemot 32:9 And יהוה said to Moshe, “I have seen this people, and see, it is a stiff-necked people!
Shemot 32:10 “And now, let Me alone, that My wrath might burn against them and I consume them and I make of you a great nation.”
Shemot 32:11 But Moshe pleaded with יהוה his Elohim, and said, “יהוה, why does Your wrath burn against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Mitsrayim with great power and with a strong hand?
Shemot 32:12 “Why should the Mitsrites speak, and say, ‘For evil He brought them out to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from the heat of Your wrath, and relent from this evil to Your people.
Shemot 32:13 “Remember Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yisra’ĕl, Your servants, to whom You swore by Yourself, and said to them, ‘I increase your seed like the stars of the heavens. And all this land that I have spoken of I give to your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.’ ”
Shemot 32:14 And יהוה relented from the evil which He said He would do to His people.
Shemot 32:15 And Moshe turned and went down from the mountain, and in his hand were the two tablets of the Witness, tablets written on both their sides, written on the one and on the other.
Shemot 32:16 And the tablets were the work of Elohim, and the writing was the writing of Elohim engraved on the tablets.
Shemot 32:17 And Yehoshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted and he said to Moshe, “A noise of battle in the camp!”
Shemot 32:18 But he said, “It is not the sound of those who shout of might, nor is it the sound of those who cry out in weakness, but the sound of singing that I hear.”
Shemot 32:19 And it came to be, as soon as he came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing. And Moshe’s displeasure burned, and he threw the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain.
Shemot 32:20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burned it in the fire, and ground it into powder, and scattered it on the face of the water and made the children of Yisra’ĕl drink it.
Shemot 32:21 And Moshe said to Aharon, “What did this people do to you that you have brought so great a sin upon them?”
Shemot 32:22 And Aharon said, “Do not let the displeasure of my master burn. You know the people, that it is in evil.
Shemot 32:23 “And they said to me, ‘Make us elohim who go before us. For this Moshe, the man who brought us out of the land of Mitsrayim, we do not know what has become of him.’
Shemot 32:24 “And I said to them, ‘Whoever has gold, let them take it off.’ And they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and this calf came out.”
Shemot 32:25 And Moshe saw that the people were naked, for Aharon had uncovered them, to their shame among their enemies.
Shemot 32:26 And Moshe stood in the entrance of the camp, and said, “Who is for יהוה? Come to me.” And all the sons of Lĕwi gathered themselves to him.
Shemot 32:27 And he said to them, “Thus said יהוה Elohim of Yisra’ĕl: ‘Each one put his sword on his side, pass over to and fro from gate to gate in the camp, and each one slay his brother, and each one his friend, and each one his relative.’ ”
Shemot 32:28 And the sons of Lĕwi did according to the word of Moshe. And about three thousand men of the people fell that day.
Shemot 32:29 And Moshe said, “You are ordained for יהוה today – since each one has been against his son and his brother – so as to bring upon you a blessing today.”
Shemot 32:30 And it came to be on the next day that Moshe said to the people, “You, you have sinned a great sin. And now I am going up to יהוה – if I might atone for your sin.”
Shemot 32:31 And Moshe returned to יהוה and said, “Oh, these people have sinned a great sin, and have made for themselves elohim of gold!
Shemot 32:32 “And now, if You would forgive their sin, but if not, please blot me out of Your sepher which You have written.”
Shemot 32:33 And יהוה said to Moshe, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I blot him out of My sepher.
Shemot 32:34 “And now, go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. See, My Messenger goes before you. And in the day of My visitation I shall visit their sin upon them.”
Shemot 32:35 And יהוה plagued the people because they made the calf, which Aharon made.
Shemot 33:1 And יהוה said to Moshe, “Come, go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought out of the land of Mitsrayim, to the land of which I swore to Avraham, to Yitzchak, and to Ya`akov̱, saying, ‘To your seed I give it.’
Shemot 33:2 “And I shall send My Mal’ak before you, and I shall drive out the Kenaʽanite and the Amorite and the Ḥittite and the Perizzite and the Ḥiwwite and the Yeḇusite,
Shemot 33:3 to a land flowing with milk and honey. For I do not go up in your midst because you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you on the way.”
Shemot 33:4 And when the people heard this evil word, they mourned, and no one put on his ornaments.
Shemot 33:5 And יהוה said to Moshe, “Say to the children of Yisra’ĕl, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. Should I go up in your midst for one moment I shall consume you. And now, take off your ornaments, and I shall know what to do to you.’ ”
Shemot 33:6 So the children of Yisra’ĕl took off their ornaments at Har Ḥorĕḇ.
Shemot 33:7 And Moshe took his tent and pitched it outside the camp, far from the camp, and called it the Ohel Mo’ed. And it came to be that everyone who sought יהוה went out to the Ohel Mo’ed which was outside the camp.
Shemot 33:8 And it came to be, whenever Moshe went out to the Tent, that all the people rose, and each man stood at his tent door and watched Moshe until he entered the Tent.
Shemot 33:9 And it came to be, when Moshe entered the Tent, that the column of cloud descended and stood at the door of the Tent, and He spoke with Moshe.
Shemot 33:10 And all the people saw the column of cloud standing at the Tent door, and all the people rose and bowed themselves, each one at the door of his tent.
Shemot 33:11 Thus יהוה spoke to Moshe face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Yehoshua son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the Tent.
Shemot 33:12 And Moshe said to יהוה, “See, You are saying to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not made known to me whom You would send with me, though You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in My eyes.’
Shemot 33:13 “And now, please, if I have found favor in Your eyes, please show me Your way, and let me know You, so that I find favor in Your eyes. And consider that this nation is Your people.”
Shemot 33:14 And He said, “My Presence (panim) does go, and I shall give you rest.”
Shemot 33:15 And he said to Him, “If Your Presence is not going, do not lead us up from here.
Shemot 33:16 “For how then shall it be known that I have found favor in Your eyes, I and Your people, except You go with us? Then we shall be distinguished, I and Your people, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”
Shemot 33:17 And יהוה said to Moshe, “Even this word you have spoken I shall do, for you have found favor in My eyes, and I know you by name.”
Shemot 33:18 Then he said, “Please, show me Your esteem.”
Shemot 33:19 And He said, “I shall cause all My goodness to pass before you, and I shall proclaim the Name of יהוה before you. And I shall favor him whom I favor, and shall have compassion on him whom I have compassion.”
Shemot 33:20 But He said, “You are unable to see My face, for no man does see Me and live.”
Shemot 33:21 And יהוה said, “See, there is a place with Me! And you shall stand on the rock.
Shemot 33:22 “And it shall be, while My esteem passes by, that I shall put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand while I pass by.
Shemot 33:23 “Then I shall take away My hand and you shall see My rear parts, but My face shall not be seen.”
Shemot 34:1 And יהוה said to Moshe, “Cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I shall write on these tablets the Words that were on the first tablets which you broke.
Shemot 34:2 “And be ready in the morning. Then you shall come up in the morning to Har Sinai, and present yourself to Me there on the top of the mountain.
Shemot 34:3 “And let no man come up with you, and let no man be seen in all the mountain, and let not even the flock or the herd feed in front of that mountain.”
Shemot 34:4 And he cut two tablets of stone like the first ones. Then Moshe rose early in the morning and went up Har Sinai, as יהוה had commanded him, and he took two tablets of stone in his hand.
Shemot 34:5 And יהוה came down in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the Name, יהוה.
Shemot 34:6 And יהוה passed before him and proclaimed, “יהוה, יהוה, an Ěl compassionate and showing favor, patient, and great in kindness and truth,
Shemot 34:7 watching over kindness for thousands, forgiving crookedness and transgression and sin, but by no means leaving unpunished1, visiting the crookedness of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.” Footnote: 1This is confirmed in Num. 14:18, and in Jer. 30:11.
Shemot 34:8 And Moshe hurried and bowed himself toward the earth, and did obeisance,
Shemot 34:9 and said, “If, now, I have found favor in Your eyes, O יהוה, I pray, let יהוה go on in our midst, even though we are a stiff-necked people. And forgive our crookedness and our sin, and take us as Your inheritance.”
Shemot 34:10 And He said, “See, I am making a covenant. Before all your people I am going to do wonders such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation. And all the people among whom you are shall see the work of יהוה. For what I am doing with you is awesome.
Shemot 34:11 “Guard what I command you today. See, I am driving out from before you the Amorite and the Kenaʽanite and the Ḥittite and the Perizzite and the Ḥiwwite and the Yeḇusite.
Shemot 34:12 “Guard yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst.
Shemot 34:13 “But break down their altars, and smash their pillars, and cut down their Ashĕrim –
Shemot 34:14 for you do not bow yourselves to another elohim, for יהוה, whose Name is jealous, is a jealous Ěl –
Shemot 34:15 lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they whore after their elohim, and slaughter to their elohim, and one of them invites you and you eat of his slaughterings,
Shemot 34:16 and you take of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters whore after their elohim, and make your sons whore after their elohim.
Shemot 34:17 “Do not make formed elohim for yourselves.
Shemot 34:18 “Guard Chag HaMatzot. For seven days you eat matzah, as I commanded you, at the Mo’ed of the month (Chodesh) of Aviv̱, because in the month of Aviv you came out from Mitsrayim.
Shemot 34:19 “Everyone opening the womb is Mine, and every male first-born among your livestock, whether bull or sheep.
Shemot 34:20 “But the first-born of a donkey you ransom with a lamb. And if you do not ransom, then you shall break his neck. Every first-born of your sons you shall ransom. And they shall not appear before Me empty-handed.
Shemot 34:21 “Six days you work, but on the seventh day you rest – in ploughing time and in harvest you rest.
Shemot 34:22 “And perform Chag Shavuot for yourself, of the bikkur of wheat harvest, and the Chag of Ingathering at the turn of the year.
Shemot 34:23 “Three times in the year all your men are to appear before the Master, יהוה, the Elohim of Yisra’ĕl,
Shemot 34:24 for I dispossess nations before you, and shall enlarge your borders, and let no one covet your land when you go up to appear before יהוה your Elohim three times in the year.
Shemot 34:25 “Do not offer the blood of My slaughtering with chametz, and do not let the slaughtering of Chag Pesach remain until morning.
Shemot 34:26 “Bring the first of the first-fruits of your land to the House of יהוה your Elohim. Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.”
Shemot 34:27 And יהוה said to Moshe, “Write these Words, for according to the mouth of these Words I have made a covenant with you and with Yisra’ĕl.”
Shemot 34:28 And he was there with יהוה forty days and forty nights. He did not eat bread and he did not drink water. And He wrote on the tablets the Words of the covenant, the Ten Devarim.
Shemot 34:29 And it came to be, when Moshe came down from Har Sinai, while the two tablets of the Witness were in Moshe’s hand when he came down from the mountain, that Moshe did not know that the skin of his face shone since he had spoken with Him.
Shemot 34:30 And Aharon and all the children of Yisra’ĕl looked at Moshe and saw the skin of his face shone (sprouted horns), and they were afraid to come near him.
Shemot 34:31 But Moshe called out to them, and Aharon and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him, and Moshe spoke to them.
Shemot 34:32 And afterward all the children of Yisra’ĕl came near, and he commanded them all that יהוה had spoken with him on Har Sinai.
Shemot 34:33 And when Moshe ended speaking with them, he put a veil on his face.
Shemot 34:34 But whenever Moshe went in before יהוה to speak with Him, he would remove the veil until he came out. And when he came out he spoke to the children of Yisra’ĕl what he had been commanded,
Shemot 34:35 and the children of Yisra’ĕl would see the face of Moshe, that the skin of Moshe’s face shone, and Moshe would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with Him.
