MattithYahu 17-18

Vayishlach Gospel
MattithYahu 17 - 18
Mat 17:1 And after six days יהושע took Kĕpha, and Ya`akov̱, and Yochanan his brother, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves,
Mat 17:2 and He was transformed before them, and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as the light.
Mat 17:3 And see, Moshe and Ěliyahu appeared to them, talking with Him.
Mat 17:4 And Kĕpha answering, said to יהושע, “Master, it is good for us to be here. If You wish, let us make here three Succot: one for You, one for Moshe, and one for Ěliyahu.”1 Footnote:1Mark 9:4.
Mat 17:5 While he was still speaking, see, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And see, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I did delight. Hear Him!”
Mat 17:6 And when the talmidim heard, they fell on their faces and were much afraid.
Mat 17:7 But יהושע came near and touched them and said, “Rise, and do not be afraid.”
Mat 17:8 And having lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but יהושע only.
Mat 17:9 And as they were coming down from the mountain, יהושע commanded them, saying, “Do not mention the vision to anyone until the Son of Aḏam is raised from the dead.”
Mat 17:10 And His talmidim asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Ěliyahu has to come first?”
Mat 17:11 And יהושע answering, said to them, “Ěliyahu is indeed coming first, and shall restore all matters.1 Footnote:1See Mark 9:12 and Acts 3:21.
Mat 17:12 “But I say to you that Ěliyahu has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they wished. In this way the Son of Aḏam is also about to suffer by them.”
Mat 17:13 Then the talmidim understood that He had spoken to them about Yochanan the Immerser.
Mat 17:14 And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying,
Mat 17:15 “Master, have compassion on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers badly, for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.
Mat 17:16 “And I brought him to Your talmidim, but they were unable to heal him.”
Mat 17:17 And יהושע answering, said, “O generation, unbelieving and perverted, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.”
Mat 17:18 And יהושע rebuked the demon, and he came out of him. And the child was healed from that hour.
Mat 17:19 Then the talmidim came to יהושע by Himself and said, “Why were we unable to cast him out?”
Mat 17:20 And יהושע said to them, “Because of your unbelief, for truly, I say to you, if you have belief as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it shall move. And no matter shall be impossible for you.
Mat 17:21 “But this kind does not go out except through prayer and fasting.”
Mat 17:22 And while they were staying in Galil, יהושע said to them, “The Son of Aḏam is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,
Mat 17:23 and they shall kill Him, and the third day He shall be raised up.” And they were deeply grieved.
Mat 17:24 And when they came into Kephar Naḥum, those who received the tax came to Kĕpha and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the tax?”
Mat 17:25 He said, “Yea.” And when he came into the house, יהושע spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Shimʽon? From whom do the sovereigns of the earth take toll or tax, from their own sons or from the strangers?”
Mat 17:26 Kĕpha then said to Him, “From the strangers.” יהושע said to him, “Then the sons are exempt.
Mat 17:27 “But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you shall find a piece of money. Take that and give it to them for Me and you.”
Mat 18:1 At that time the talmidim came to יהושע, saying, “Who, then, is greatest in the reign of the heavens?”
Mat 18:2 And יהושע called a little child to Him, set him in their midst,
Mat 18:3 and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become as little children, you shall by no means enter into the reign of the heavens.
Mat 18:4 “Whoever then humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the reign of the heavens.
Mat 18:5 “And whoever receives one little child like this in My Name receives Me.
Mat 18:6 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it is better for him that a millstone be hung around his neck, and that he be drowned in the depth of the sea.
Mat 18:7 “Woe to the world because of stumbling-blocks! For it is necessary that stumbling-blocks come, but woe to that man by whom the stumbling-block comes!
Mat 18:8 “And if your hand or foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or crippled, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be thrown into the everlasting fire.
Mat 18:9 “And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be thrown into the fire of Gehenna.
Mat 18:10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in the heavens their messengers always see the face of My Father who is in the heavens.
Mat 18:11 “For the Son of Aḏam has come to save what was lost.
Mat 18:12 “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, would he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains, going to seek the one that is straying?
Mat 18:13 “And if he should find it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray.
Mat 18:14 “Thus it is not the desire of your Father who is in the heavens that one of these little ones should be lost.
Mat 18:15 “And if your brother sins against you, go and reprove him, between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.
Mat 18:16 “But if he does not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word might be established.’
Mat 18:17 “And if he refuses to hear them, say it to the assembly. And if he refuses even to hear the assembly, let him be to you like a gentile and a tax collector.
Mat 18:18 “Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind1 on earth shall be having been bound1 in heaven, and whatever you loosen1 on earth shall be having been loosened1 in heaven. Footnote: 1Binding and loosening is Heḇrew idiom for exercising authority (to prohibit and permit).
Mat 18:19 “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning any matter that they ask, it shall be done for them by My Father in the heavens.
Mat 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in My Name, there I am in their midst.”
Mat 18:21 Then Kĕpha came to Him and said, “Master, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?”
Mat 18:22 יהושע said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
Mat 18:23 “Because of this the reign of the heavens is like a certain man, a sovereign who wished to settle accounts with his slaves.
Mat 18:24 “And when he had begun to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents,
Mat 18:25 but as he was unable to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made.
Mat 18:26 “Then the slave fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I shall pay you all.’
Mat 18:27 “And the master of that slave was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.
Mat 18:28 “And that slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him a hundred pieces of money. And he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’
Mat 18:29 “Then his fellow slave fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I shall pay you all.’
Mat 18:30 “But he would not, and went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt.
Mat 18:31 “And when his fellow slaves saw what had been done, they were deeply grieved, and came and reported to their master all that had taken place.
Mat 18:32 “Then his master called him and said to him, ‘Wicked slave! I forgave you all that debt seeing you begged me.
Mat 18:33 ‘Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow slave, as I also had compassion on you?’
Mat 18:34 “And his master was wroth, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.
Mat 18:35 “So also My heavenly Father shall do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”
Mat 17:1 And after six days יהושע took Kĕpha, and Ya`akov̱, and Yochanan his brother, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves,

Vayishlach Haftarah
Hoshea 11:7 - 12:12, Ovadyah 1:1-21
Hoshea 11:7 “My people are bent towards backsliding from Me. Though they call to the Most High, He lifts none of them up.
Hoshea 11:8 “How could I give you up, Ephrayim? How could I hand you over, Yisra’ĕl? How could I make you like Aḏmah? How could I set you like Tseḇoyim? My heart turns within Me, all My compassion is kindled.
Hoshea 11:9 “I shall not let the heat of My wrath burn, I shall not turn to destroy Ephrayim. For I am Ěl, and not man, the Kadosh One in your midst, and I shall not come in enmity.
Hoshea 11:10 “Let them follow יהוה. Like a lion He roars. When He roars, then sons shall tremble from the west.
Hoshea 11:11 “They shall tremble like a bird from Mitsrayim, and like a dove from the land of Ashshur. And I shall let them dwell in their own houses,” declares יהוה.
Hoshea 11:12 “Ephrayim has surrounded Me with lying, and the house of Yisra’ĕl with deceit. But Yehuḏah is still wandering with Ěl, and is true to the Kadosh One.”
Hoshea 12:1 Ephrayim is feeding on wind, and pursuing an east wind. All the day he increases falsehood and ruin. And they make a covenant with Ashshur, and oil is sent to Mitsrayim.
Hoshea 12:2 And יהוה has a controversy with Yehuḏah, to punish Ya`akov̱ according to his ways, to repay him according to his deeds.
Hoshea 12:3 He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and in his strength he strove with Elohim.
Hoshea 12:4 He strove with the Messenger and overcame1, he wept and sought His favor. He found Him in Bĕyth Ěl, and there He spoke to us – Footnote: 1Gen. 32:28.
Hoshea 12:5 even יהוה Elohim of Hosts, יהוה is His remembrance.
Hoshea 12:6 Therefore, return to your Elohim. Guard kindness and righteous-ruling, and wait on your Elohim continually.
Hoshea 12:7 A merchant! In his hand are scales of deceit, he loved to oppress.
Hoshea 12:8 And Ephrayim says, “Indeed, I have become rich, I have found wealth for myself. In all my labors they shall find in me no crookedness that is sin.”
Hoshea 12:9 “But I am יהוה your Elohim since the land of Mitsrayim, again I shall make you dwell in tents as in the days of the moed1. Footnote: 1Or festival.
Hoshea 12:10 “And I have spoken to the nevi’im, and have increased visions. And through the nevi’im I gave parables.”
Hoshea 12:11 Is Gilʽaḏ wicked? Certainly, they have been false! In Gilgal they have offered bulls. Also their altars are as heaps on a ploughed field.
Hoshea 12:12 And when Ya`akov̱ fled to the country of Aram, Yisra’ĕl served for a wife, and for a wife he kept watch.
Ova 1:1 The vision of Oḇaḏyah: This is what the Master יהוה said concerning Eḏom. We have heard a report from יהוה, and a messenger has been sent among the nations, saying, “Arise, and let us rise up against her for battle!”
Ova 1:2 “See, I have made you small among the nations, you are greatly despised.
Ova 1:3 “The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose dwelling is high, who say in your heart, ‘Who shall bring me down to the ground?’
Ova 1:4 “Though you rise high as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there I shall bring you down,” declares יהוה.
Ova 1:5 “If thieves came to you, if robbers by night, how ruined you would have been! Would they not steal till they had enough? If grape-gatherers had come to you, would they not leave gleanings?
Ova 1:6 “How Ěsaw shall be searched out! His hidden treasures shall be sought out!
Ova 1:7 “All your allies shall send you forth to the border, your friends shall deceive you and overpower you. They make your bread a snare under you, without you discerning it!
Ova 1:8 “In that day,” declares יהוה, “I shall destroy the wise men from Eḏom, and discernment from the mountains of Ěsaw!
Ova 1:9 “And your mighty men shall be discouraged, O Tĕman, so that everyone from the mountains of Ěsaw is cut off by slaughter.
Ova 1:10 “Because of your violence against your brother Yaʽakov, let shame cover you. And you shall be cut off forever.
Ova 1:11 “In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that strangers took captive his wealth, when foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Yerushalayim, you also were like one of them!
Ova 1:12 “And you should not have looked on your brother’s day in the day of his estrangement, nor rejoiced over the children of Yehuḏah in the day of their destruction, nor made your mouth great in the day of distress,
Ova 1:13 nor have entered the gate of My people in the day of their calamity, nor looked down on their evil in the day of their calamity, nor have seized their wealth in the day of their calamity,
Ova 1:14 nor have stood at the parting of the way to cut off his fugitives, nor handed over his survivors in the day of distress.
Ova 1:15 “For the day of יהוה is near upon all the gentiles. As you have done, it shall be done to you, your reward shall come back on your own head.
Ova 1:16 “For as you have drunk on my kadosh mountain, so do all the gentiles drink continually. And they shall drink and shall swallow, and they shall be as though they had never been.
Ova 1:17 “But on Mount Tsiyon there shall be an escape1, and they shall be set-apart. And the house of Yaʽakov shall possess their possessions.
Ova 1:18 “And the house of Yaʽakov shall be a fire, and the house of Yosĕph a flame, but the house of Ěsaw for stubble. And they shall burn among them and they shall consume them, so that no survivor is left of the house of Ěsaw.” For יהוה has spoken.
Ova 1:19 And they shall possess the South with the mountains of Ěsaw, and low country with the Philistines. And they shall possess the fields of Ephrayim and the fields of Shomeron, and Binyamin with Gilʽaḏ,
Ova 1:20 and the exiles of this host of the children of Yisra’ĕl possess that of the Kenaʽanites as far as Tsarephath, and the exiles of Yerushalayim who are in Sepharaḏ possess the cities of the South.
Ova 1:21 And saviours shall come to Mount Tsiyon to judge the mountains of Ěsaw. And the reign shall belong to יהוה1
Hoshea 11:7 “My people are bent towards backsliding from Me. Though they call to the Most High, He lifts none of them up.

Vayishlach
B'reisheet 32:4(3)* - 36:43
B’reisheet 32:3 And Ya`akov̱ sent messengers before him to Ěsaw his brother in the land of Sĕʽir, the field of Eḏom
B’reisheet 32:4 and he commanded them, saying, “Say this to my master Ěsaw, ‘Your servant Ya`akov̱ said this, “I have sojourned with Laḇan and stayed there until now.
B’reisheet 32:5 “And I have bulls, and donkeys, flocks, and male and female servants. And I have sent to inform my master, to find favor in your eyes.” ’ ”
B’reisheet 32:6 So the messengers returned to Ya`akov̱, saying, “We came to your brother Ěsaw, and he also is coming to meet you, and four hundred men with him.”
B’reisheet 32:7 And Ya`akov̱ was greatly afraid and distressed. So he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks and herds and camels, into two groups,
B’reisheet 32:8 and he said, “If Ěsaw comes to the one group and attacks it, then the other group which is left shall escape.”
B’reisheet 32:9 And Ya`akov̱ said, “O Elohim of my father Avraham and Elohim of my father Yitzchak, יהוה who said to me, ‘Return to your land and to your relatives, and I do good to you,’
B’reisheet 32:10 “I do not deserve the least of all the kind acts and all the truth which You have shown Your servant, for I passed over this Yardĕn with my staff, and now I have become two groups.
B’reisheet 32:11 “Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Ěsaw, for I fear him, lest he come and shall smite me and the mother with the children.
B’reisheet 32:12 “For You said, ‘I shall certainly do good to you, and shall make your seed as the sand of the sea, which are too numerous to count.’ ”
B’reisheet 32:13 And he spent the night there, and took what came to his hand as a present for Ěsaw his brother –
B’reisheet 32:14 two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,
B’reisheet 32:15 thirty milk camels with their colts, forty cows and ten bulls, twenty female donkeys and ten foals.
B’reisheet 32:16 And he gave into the hand of his servants, every drove by itself, and said to his servants, “Pass over before me, and put some distance between drove and drove.”
B’reisheet 32:17 And he commanded the first one, saying, “When Ěsaw my brother meets you and asks you, saying, ‘To whom do you belong, and where are you going? And whose are these in front of you?’
B’reisheet 32:18 then you shall say, ‘They are your servant Ya`akov’s̱. It is a present sent to my master Ěsaw. And see, he also is behind us.’ ”
B’reisheet 32:19 So he commanded the second, and the third, and all who followed the droves, saying, “Speak to Ěsaw this same word when you find him,
B’reisheet 32:20 and you shall say, ‘Also look, your servant Ya`akov̱ is behind us.’ ” For he said, “Let me appease him with the present that goes before me, and after that see his face. He might accept me.”
B’reisheet 32:21 And the present passed over before him, but he himself spent the night in the camp.
B’reisheet 32:22 And he rose up that night and took his two wives, and his two female servants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford of Yabboq.
B’reisheet 32:23 And he took them and sent them over the stream, and sent over what he had.
B’reisheet 32:24 And Ya`akov̱ was left alone. And a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.
B’reisheet 32:25 And when He saw that He did not overcome him, He touched the socket of his hip. And the socket of Ya`akov’s̱ hip was dislocated as He wrestled with him.
B’reisheet 32:26 And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I am not letting You go until You have blessed me!”
B’reisheet 32:27 So He asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Ya`akov̱.”
B’reisheet 32:28 And He said, “Your name is no longer called Ya`akov̱, but Yisra’ĕl1, because you have striven with Elohim and with men, and have overcome.” Footnote: 1Yisra’ĕl means “to strive with Ěl, to overcome with Ěl, (then) to rule with Ěl”
B’reisheet 32:29 And Ya`akov̱ asked Him, saying, “Please let me know Your Name.” And He said, “Why do you ask about My Name?” And He blessed him there.
B’reisheet 32:30 And Ya`akov̱ called the name of the place Peni’ĕl, “For I have seen Elohim face to face, and my life is preserved.”
B’reisheet 32:31 And the sun rose on him as he passed over Penu’ĕl, and he limped on his hip.
B’reisheet 32:32 That is why the children of Yisra’ĕl to this day do not eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the socket of the thigh, because He touched the socket of the thigh of Ya`akov̱, in the sinew of the hip
B’reisheet 33:1 And Ya`akov̱ lifted his eyes and looked and saw Ěsaw coming, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children among Lĕ’ah, and Rachĕl, and the two female servants.
B’reisheet 33:2 And he put the female servants and their children in front, and Lĕ’ah and her children behind, and Racḥĕl and Yosĕph last.
B’reisheet 33:3 And he himself passed over before them and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
B’reisheet 33:4 And Ěsaw ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.
B’reisheet 33:5 And he lifted his eyes and saw the women and children, and said, “Who are these with you?” And he said, “The children with whom Elohim has favored your servant.”
B’reisheet 33:6 Then the female servants came near, they and their children, and bowed themselves.
B’reisheet 33:7 And Lĕ’ah also came near with her children, and they bowed themselves. And Yosĕph and Racḥĕl came near, and they bowed themselves.
B’reisheet 33:8 Then Ěsaw said, “What do you mean by all this company which I met?” And he said, “To find favor in the eyes of my master.”
B’reisheet 33:9 But Ěsaw said, “I have enough, my brother, let what you have remain yours.”
B’reisheet 33:10 And Ya`akov̱ said, “No, please, if I have now found favor in your eyes, then receive my present from my hand, because I have seen your face like seeing the face of Elohim, and you were pleased with me.
B’reisheet 33:11 “Please, take my blessing that is brought to you, because Elohim has favored me, and because I have all I need.” And he urged him, and he took it.
B’reisheet 33:12 And he said, “Let us depart and go, and let me go before you.”
B’reisheet 33:13 But he said to him, “My master knows that the children are weak, and the flocks and herds which are nursing are with me. And if the men should drive them hard one day, all the flocks shall die.
B’reisheet 33:14 “Please let my master go before his servant, and let me lead on slowly according to the pace of the livestock that go before me, and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my master in Sĕʽir.”
B’reisheet 33:15 And Ěsaw said, “Please let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.” But he said, “Why this? Let me find favor in the eyes of my master.”
B’reisheet 33:16 And Ěsaw returned that day on his way to Sĕʽir.
B’reisheet 33:17 And Ya`akov̱ set out to Sukkoth, and built himself a house, and made booths for his livestock. That is why the name of the place is called Sukkoth.
B’reisheet 33:18 And Ya`akov̱ came safely to the city of Sheḵem, which is in the land of Kenaʽan, when he came from Paddan Aram. And he pitched his tent before the city.
B’reisheet 33:19 And he bought the portion of the field where he had pitched his tent, from the children of Ḥamor, Sheḵem’s father, for one hundred qesitah.
B’reisheet 33:20 And he set up an altar there and called it Ěl Elohĕ Yisra’ĕl.
B’reisheet 34:1 And Dinah, the daughter of Lĕ’ah, whom she had borne to Ya`akov̱, went out to see the daughters of the land.
B’reisheet 34:2 And Sheḵem, son of Ḥamor the Ḥiwwite, prince of the land, saw her and took her and lay with her, and humbled her.
B’reisheet 34:3 And his being clung to Dinah the daughter of Ya`akov̱, and he loved the girl and spoke kindly to the girl.
B’reisheet 34:4 And Sheḵem spoke to his father Ḥamor, saying, “Take this girl for me for a wife.”
B’reisheet 34:5 And Ya`akov̱ heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter. Now his sons were with his livestock in the field, so Ya`akov̱ kept silent until they came.
B’reisheet 34:6 And Ḥamor, the father of Sheḵem, went out to Ya`akov̱ to speak with him.
B’reisheet 34:7 And the sons of Ya`akov̱ came in from the field when they heard it. And the men were grieved and very wroth, because he had done a senseless deed in Yisra’ĕl by lying with Ya`akov’s̱ daughter, which should not be done.
B’reisheet 34:8 But Ḥamor spoke with them, saying, “My son Sheḵem’s being longs for your daughter. Please give her to him for a wife.
B’reisheet 34:9 “And intermarry with us, give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves,
B’reisheet 34:10 and dwell with us, and let the land be before you. Dwell and move about in it, and have possessions in it.”
B’reisheet 34:11 And Sheḵem said to her father and her brothers, “Let me find favor in your eyes, and whatever you say to me I give.
B’reisheet 34:12 “Ask of me a bride price and gift ever so high, and I give according to what you say to me, but give me the girl for a wife.”
B’reisheet 34:13 But the sons of Ya`akov̱ answered Sheḵem and Ḥamor his father, and spoke with deceit, because he had defiled Dinah their sister.
B’reisheet 34:14 And they said to them, “We are not able to do this matter, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised, for that would be a reproach to us.
B’reisheet 34:15 “Only on this condition would we agree to you: If you become as we are, to have every male of you circumcised,
B’reisheet 34:16 then we shall give our daughters to you, and take your daughters to us. And we shall dwell with you, and shall become one people.
B’reisheet 34:17 “But if you do not listen to us and be circumcised, we shall take our daughter and go.”
B’reisheet 34:18 And their words pleased Ḥamor and Sheḵem, Ḥamor’s son.
B’reisheet 34:19 And the young man did not delay to do this because he delighted in Ya`akov’s̱ daughter. Now he was more respected than all the household of his father.
B’reisheet 34:20 And Ḥamor and Sheḵem his son came to the gate of their city, and spoke with the men of their city, saying,
B’reisheet 34:21 “These men are at peace with us, so let them dwell in the land and move about in it. And see, the land is large enough for them. Let us take their daughters for us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.
B’reisheet 34:22 “Only on this condition would the men agree to dwell with us, to be one people: if every male among us is circumcised as they are circumcised.
B’reisheet 34:23 “Their herds and their possessions, and all their beasts, should they not be ours? Only let us agree with them, and let them dwell with us.”
B’reisheet 34:24 And all who went out of the gate of his city listened to Ḥamor and Sheḵem his son; every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.
B’reisheet 34:25 And it came to be on the third day, when they were in pain, that two of the sons of Ya`akov̱, Shimʽon and Lĕwi, Dinah’s brothers, each took his sword and came boldly upon the city and killed all the males.
B’reisheet 34:26 And they killed Ḥamor and Sheḵem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah from Sheḵem’s house, and went out.
B’reisheet 34:27 The sons of Ya`akov̱ came upon the slain, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister.
B’reisheet 34:28 They took their flocks and their herds, and their donkeys, and that which was in the city and that which was in the field,
B’reisheet 34:29 and all their wealth. And all their little ones and their wives they took captive, and they plundered all that was in the houses.
B’reisheet 34:30 And Ya`akov̱ said to Shimʽon and Lĕwi, “You have troubled me by making me a stench among the inhabitants of the land, among the Kenaʽanites and the Perizzites. And I am few in number, they shall gather themselves against me and shall smite me, and I shall be destroyed, my household and I.”
B’reisheet 34:31 But they said, “Should he treat our sister like a whore?”
B’reisheet 35:1 And Elohim said to Ya`akov̱, “Arise, go up to Bĕyth Ěl and dwell there. And make an altar there to Ěl who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Ěsaw your brother.”
B’reisheet 35:2 And Ya`akov̱ said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign mighty ones that are among you, and cleanse yourselves, and change your garments.
B’reisheet 35:3 “And let us arise and go up to Bĕyth Ěl, and let me make there an altar to Ěl, who answered me in the day of my distress, and has been with me in the way which I have gone.”
B’reisheet 35:4 So they gave Ya`akov̱ all the foreign mighty ones which were in their hands, and all their earrings which were in their ears. And Ya`akov̱ hid them under the terebinth tree which was near Sheḵem.
B’reisheet 35:5 And they departed, and the fear of Elohim was upon the cities that were all around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Ya`akov̱.
B’reisheet 35:6 And Ya`akov̱ came to Luz, that is Bĕyth Ěl, which is in the land of Kenaʽan, he and all the people who were with him.
B’reisheet 35:7 And he built there an altar and called the place El Bĕyth Ěl, because there Elohim appeared to him when he fled from the face of his brother.
B’reisheet 35:8 And Deḇorah, Rivkah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bĕyth Ěl under the terebinth tree. So the name of it was called Allon Baḵuth.
B’reisheet 35:9 And Elohim appeared to Ya`akov̱ again, when he came from Paddan Aram, and blessed him.
B’reisheet 35:10 And Elohim said to him, “Your name is Ya`akov̱, your name is no longer called Ya`akov̱, but Yisra’ĕl is your name.” So He called his name Yisra’ĕl.
B’reisheet 35:11 And Elohim said to him, “I am Ěl Shaddai. Bear fruit and increase, a nation and a company of nations shall be from you, and sovereigns come from your body.
B’reisheet 35:12 “And the land which I gave Avraham and Yitzchak I give to you. And to your seed after you I give this land.”
B’reisheet 35:13 And Elohim went up from him in the place where He had spoken with him.
B’reisheet 35:14 And Ya`akov̱ set up a standing column in the place where He had spoken with him, a monument of stone. And he poured a drink offering on it, and he poured oil on it.
B’reisheet 35:15 And Ya`akov̱ called the name of the place where Elohim spoke with him, Bĕyth Ěl.
B’reisheet 35:16 Then they set out from Bĕyth Ěl. And it came to be, when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, that Racḥĕl began to give birth, and had great difficulty giving birth.
B’reisheet 35:17 And it came to be, as she was having great difficulty giving birth, that the midwife said to her, “Do not fear, for it is another son for you.”
B’reisheet 35:18 And it came to be, as her life was going out – for she died – that she called his name Ben-Oni. But his father called him Binyamin.
B’reisheet 35:19 So Racḥĕl died and was buried on the way to Ephrath, that is Bĕyth Leḥem.
B’reisheet 35:20 And Ya`akov̱ set a standing column on her grave, which is the monument of Racḥĕl’s grave to this day.
B’reisheet 35:21 And Yisra’ĕl set out and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Ěḏer.
B’reisheet 35:22 And it came to be, when Yisra’ĕl dwelt in that land, that Re’uḇĕn went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine. And Yisra’ĕl heard about it. Now the sons of Ya`akov̱ were twelve:
B’reisheet 35:23 the sons of Lĕ’ah were Re’uḇĕn, Ya`akov̱’s first-born, and Shimʽon, and Lĕwi, and Yehuḏah, and Yissasḵar, and Zeḇulun;
B’reisheet 35:24 the sons of Racḥĕl were Yosĕph and Binyamin;
B’reisheet 35:25 the sons of Bilhah, Racḥĕl’s female slave, were Dan and Naphtali;
B’reisheet 35:26 and the sons of Zilpah, Lĕ’ah’s female slave, were Gaḏ and Ashĕr. These were the sons of Ya`akov̱ who were born to him in Paddan Aram.
B’reisheet 35:27 And Ya`akov̱ came to his father Yitzchak at Mamrĕ, or Qiryath Arba, that is Ḥeḇron, where Avraham and Yitzchak had dwelt.
B’reisheet 35:28 And the days of Yitzchak were one hundred and eighty years.
B’reisheet 35:29 So Yitzchak breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people, aged and satisfied of days. And his sons Ěsaw and Ya`akov̱ buried him.
B’reisheet 36:1 And this is the genealogy of Ěsaw, who is Eḏom.
B’reisheet 36:2 Ěsaw took his wives from the daughters of Kenaʽan: Aḏah the daughter of Ělon the Ḥittite, and Oholiḇamah the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Tsiḇʽon the Ḥiwwite;
B’reisheet 36:3 and Basemath, Yishmaʽĕl’s daughter, sister of Neḇayoth.
B’reisheet 36:4 And Aḏah bore Eliphaz to Ěsaw, and Basemath bore Reʽuw’ĕl.
B’reisheet 36:5 And Oholiḇamah bore Yeʽush, and Yaʽlam, and Qoraḥ. These were the sons of Ěsaw who were born to him in the land of Kenaʽan.
B’reisheet 36:6 And Ěsaw took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the beings of his household, and his herds and all his beasts, and all his possessions which he had gained in the land of Kenaʽan, and went to a land away from the presence of his brother Ya`akov̱.
B’reisheet 36:7 For their possessions were too great for them to dwell together, and the land of their sojournings could not support them because of their herds.
B’reisheet 36:8 So Ěsaw dwelt in Mount Sĕʽir. Ěsaw is Eḏom.
B’reisheet 36:9 And this is the Genealogy of Ěsaw the father of the Eḏomites in Mount Sĕʽir.
B’reisheet 36:10 These were the names of Ěsaw’s sons: Eliphaz son of Aḏah, wife of Ěsaw, and Reʽuw’ĕl son of Basemath, wife of Ěsaw.
B’reisheet 36:11 And the sons of Eliphaz were Tĕman, Omar, Tsepho, and Gatam, and Qenaz.
B’reisheet 36:12 And Timna was the concubine of Eliphaz, Ěsaw’s son, and she bore Amalĕq to Eliphaz. These were the sons of Aḏah, Ěsaw’s wife.

B’reisheet 36:14 These were the sons of Oholiḇamah, Ěsaw’s wife, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Tsiḇʽon. And she bore to Ěsaw: Yeʽush, and Yaʽlam, and Qoraḥ.
B’reisheet 36:15 These were the chiefs of the sons of Ěsaw. The sons of Eliphaz, the first-born son of Ěsaw, were Chief Tĕman, Chief Omar, Chief Tsepho, Chief Qenaz,

B’reisheet 36:18 And these were the sons of Oholiḇamah, Ěsaw’s wife: Chief Yeʽush, Chief Yaʽlam, and Chief Qoraḥ. These were the chiefs descending from Oholiḇamah, Ěsaw’s wife, the daughter of Anah.
B’reisheet 36:19 These were the sons of Ěsaw, who is Eḏom, and these were their chiefs.
B’reisheet 36:20 These were the sons of Sĕʽir the Ḥorite who inhabited the land: Lotan, and Shoḇal, and Tsiḇʽon, and Anah,
B’reisheet 36:21 and Dishon, and Ětser, and Dishan. These were the chiefs of the Ḥorites, the sons of Sĕʽir, in the land of Eḏom.
B’reisheet 36:22 And the sons of Lotan were Ḥori and Hĕmam. Lotan’s sister was Timna.
B’reisheet 36:23 And these were the sons of Shoḇal: Alwan, and Manaḥath, and Ěyḇal, Shepho, and Onam.
B’reisheet 36:24 And these were the sons of Tsiḇʽon: both Ayah and Anah. This was the Anah who found the water in the wilderness as he fed the donkeys of his father Tsiḇʽon.
B’reisheet 36:25 And these were the children of Anah: Dishon and Oholiḇamah the daughter of Anah.
B’reisheet 36:26 And these were the sons of Dishon: Ḥemdan, and Eshban, and Yithran, and Keran.
B’reisheet 36:27 These were the sons of Ětser: Bilhan, and Zaʽawan, and Aqan.
B’reisheet 36:28 These were the sons of Dishan: Uts and Aran.
B’reisheet 36:29 These were the chiefs of the Ḥorites: Chief Lotan, Chief Shoḇal, Chief Tsiḇʽon, Chief Anah,
B’reisheet 36:30 Chief Dishon, Chief Ětser, and Chief Dishan. These were the chiefs of the Ḥorites, according to their chiefs in the land of Sĕʽir.
B’reisheet 36:31 And these were the sovereigns who reigned in the land of Eḏom before any sovereign reigned over the children of Yisra’ĕl.
B’reisheet 36:32 And Bela the son of Beʽor reigned in Eḏom, and the name of his city was Dinhaḇah.
B’reisheet 36:33 And Bela died, and Yoḇaḇ son of Zeraḥ of Botsrah reigned in his place.
B’reisheet 36:34 And Yoḇaḇ died, and Ḥusham of the land of the Tĕmanites reigned in his place.
B’reisheet 36:35 And Ḥusham died, and Haḏaḏ son of Beḏaḏ, who smote Miḏyan in the field of Mo’aḇ, reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Awith.
B’reisheet 36:36 And Haḏaḏ died, and Samlah of Masrĕqah reigned in his place.
B’reisheet 36:37 And Samlah died, and Sha’ul of Reḥoḇoth by the River reigned in his place.
B’reisheet 36:38 And Sha’ul died, and Baʽal-Ḥanan son of Aḵbor reigned in his place.
B’reisheet 36:39 And Baʽal-Ḥanan son of Aḵbor died, and Haḏar reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Paʽu. And his wife’s name was Mehĕtab’ĕl, the daughter of Matrĕḏ, the daughter of Mĕyzahaḇ.
B’reisheet 36:40 And these were the names of the chiefs of Ěsaw, according to their clans and their places, by their names: Chief Timnah, Chief Alwah, Chief Yethĕth,
B’reisheet 36:41 Chief Oholiḇamah, Chief Ělah, Chief Pinon,
B’reisheet 36:42 Chief Qenaz, Chief Tĕman, Chief Miḇtsar,
B’reisheet 36:43 Chief Maḡdi’ĕl, Chief Iram. These were the chiefs of Eḏom, according to their dwelling places in the land of their possession. Ěsaw was the father of the Eḏomites.
B’reisheet 35:23 the sons of Lĕ’ah were Re’uḇĕn, Ya`akov̱’s first-born, and Shimʽon, and Lĕwi, and Yehuḏah, and Yissasḵar, and Zeḇulun;
B’reisheet 35:24 the sons of Racḥĕl were Yosĕph and Binyamin;
B’reisheet 35:25 the sons of Bilhah, Racḥĕl’s female slave, were Dan and Naphtali;
B’reisheet 35:26 and the sons of Zilpah, Lĕ’ah’s female slave, were Gaḏ and Ashĕr. These were the sons of Ya`akov̱ who were born to him in Paddan Aram.
